Well the results are in. Coolant leaking into the cylinder(s) when the engine is off. Cracked block or head gasket. If anyone wants a blown-engine 1999 that's in well-used-but-otherwise-maintained condition, we'll probably just sell it to whoever wants to give it another life. Everything else...

Coil was already swapped with a brand-new Denso from RockAuto. I also moved coils and plugs around between cylinder. No change with that either.

Man if mine are counterfeit they’re dang convincing. The one in your photo is obvious. The ones I got look identical to the real thing, down to the plastic casting lines and all. I still have this itch in my head that if they were counterfeit, the car would run like crap 100% of the time...

I broke most of the connectors trying to get them out of the fuel rail :cry: But I have swapped every possible variable of ignition in that cylinder: plug, coil, injector, nothing made a lick of difference.

The thing that hangs me up on this thought process is the fact that it runs flawless for the first drive after an ECU reset (and the original problem of the cylinder 3 misfire didn’t change at all)

Another question: that vacuum-operated fuel return regulator thingy that sits on the passenger side of the fuel rail is a potential spot for fuel to sneak back into the combustion chambers and cause a rich reading. Would there be any harm in unplugging or pinching that little vacuum line with...

Anyone have an answer on replacing the module altogether? I got another 1998 GS400 and want to try this mod cuz the range sucks arse compared to my previous 2006 GS. The module is $22 on eBay and I'd feel a lot better about chopping up a donor instead of the only one that I know for sure works...
