How does my 1st gen Tundra compare to a 80 or 100 (or 4th gen 4R)?

That RuffStuff axle is pretty interesting looking, but I'm going for a recycled one. You can get them on ebay, drum to drum for $700-$800 bucks from TX. That sounds good to me, although I am also going to talk with my local yard to see what they have. The backing plates on my current one are...

How does my 1st gen Tundra compare to a 80 or 100 (or 4th gen 4R)?

So ...many months and a bunch of test drives later (80's, 100s, 4th gen 4Runner, GX470, even an FJ!)...I've sold the Jeep and still have the Tundra as my only vehicle. In an unfortunately turn of events, about a week after the Jeep was gone, the Tundra rear diff started leaking...the dreaded...

GX470 Nav/HVAC integration - what won't work when it goes?

I agree that they shouldn't be a show stopper, and I wouldn't really care too much if not for the heater controls. Like most things on the internet nav problems are probably amplified a bit, but it's the principle of the matter! I've read about people doing swaps in RXes (I think), but nothing...

GX470 Nav/HVAC integration - what won't work when it goes?

I've definitely considered this. I occasionally check the NC-VA area. The only problem is that I'm a nervous buyer, not to mention that it starts to open up the entire world of cool vehicles (which have long-since rusted to nothing up here), so then I can't decide. ;) It would be really fun...

GX470 Nav/HVAC integration - what won't work when it goes?

It would be interesting to see if it worked without the nav at all. Hopefully they engineered it to have some fail safes. But in the end, I agree - I won't let the nav deter me from a good truck - I'll grumble about it a lot. The hard part for me is finding one which the rust hasn't gotten...

GX470 Nav/HVAC integration - what won't work when it goes?

Bummer, that is was I was afraid of. I don't understand what the keys on the dash do, but perhaps I'll figure that out when I buy my nav-enabled 470. Unfortunately things don't tend to break when it is convenient. At least if it worked a little bit you could take some time to figure it out...

GX470 Nav/HVAC integration - what won't work when it goes?

Hi all, I've searched and searched and understand that there isn't much of an escape route from a GX with a factory Nav system beyond replacing with the same unit if and when the thing goes bad. Or at least certainly not an easy or documented one. I also understand that the Nav controls the...

Most cost-effective platform to baseline and build?

All except a gen 4 4runner. Just short drive on the 80, longer on the 100 and a long time ago I married into a 4runner. Unfortunately baby seats were a pain so we sold it. Bummer on that one.

How does my 1st gen Tundra compare to a 80 or 100 (or 4th gen 4R)?

I think the major drawback of the 1st gen Tundra is the turning radius. On paper it doesn't seem like much more than the others, but in practice is seems pretty large. I like it as a DD, but it just seems a bit big for trail riding. I'd be interested to hear how you think maneuvers compared...

Most cost-effective platform to baseline and build?

Unfortunately, I like them all! The 100 does tend to land in the middle ground. I think the biggest drawback for me is the size. I should probably just get one of each...

How does my 1st gen Tundra compare to a 80 or 100 (or 4th gen 4R)?

I kind of have settled on an 80, but it is hard to find them in decent condition in NH. Every so often I swing back to a 3rd gen 4Runner. I'm feeling a bit schizophrenic. When I really, really make up my mind I'll probably have to do some painful hoop-jumping for a southern truck. I...

Most cost-effective platform to baseline and build?

I suspect there similar threads to this question out there, but I haven't been able to find one (although I've read a lot of very interesting threads on my search). So I will ask: Assuming that I were to get one of a 80, 100, or 120 (GX470 or 4R) in the 140,000 mile range with generally the...

How does my 1st gen Tundra compare to a 80 or 100 (or 4th gen 4R)?

Thanks. I will likely go with something like a 2" lift and 33's or 34's tops, as it will be an OD (often-driver, since my Tundra will be my fuel-economy car!). When you say "no fun factor" for the 100, what do you mean? No good off road, or too cushy? Also, does your Tundra have a...

How does my 1st gen Tundra compare to a 80 or 100 (or 4th gen 4R)?

Hi all, I have recently become obsessed with LCs, and I have been schooling myself in them via this wonderful site. I'm looking for my forever rig. My main desire is for an off roader (so 80's series), but I also would love to use it as a DD (so 100s), and while I really love the project, I...
