Building my Sons first car... FJ40.
Family tradition to build your first car, but I've added a new rule: gotta be a rust bucket 🤣.

He wants to get good at welding (first welder for Christmas) so no better way to learn a skill than necessity.

Just bought a 1977 FJ40 with a 2F and all standard running gear. Looks like it hadn't done much rough work, clean/ undinted underside and tub, but rust everywhere. Bit worried that it won't turn over and locks the wheels when trying to roll start 👀, but I grew up with one and know that everything is repairable on these.

My late, great, self taught Father put a Chevy 357 in his and could put the tail gate on the tarmac with the kids in the back (standing up and white knuckling it) 🤘. We called it 'The Animal'. When the kids came of age, he put the slowest 4 cylinder diesel in, to teach us patience 🤣. He did have a sense of humour that one. Bastard!
