OK so it turns out that surging is a symptom of the torque converter lockup slipping, which is due to old trans fluid. Replaced and the issue appears to have gone away!

So between writing this and now, the MIL has cleared on its own. I've cleared the code memory and we'll see what happens. Surge still present after an ECU reset unfortunately.

OK so I cleaned the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner. Let it dry for an hour or so then reinstalled and reconnected battery and ran the truck around town. Now I have a P0101 error. MAF was really clean - could cleaning it make it worse? Some other research indicates possibly a dirty throttle body? What...

I am having an odd issue. Replaced oxygen sensors on bank 1 recently due to being stuck lean. Truck running normally for about 2 weeks now but just noticed a new issue. In 4th gear, when accelerating at around 2200 RPM, there is a noticeable surge - power drops about 100RPM repeatedly...

Found it. Odd it isn't listed in the parts diagram I have in my FSM. Replaced both on the same bank. So far the idle has straightened out nicely and CEL has held off. We'll see!

OK so I can't figure out where the O2 sensor is. The part lists include "UPSTREAM LH/RH" and "DOWNSTREAM LH/RH". Code says Bank 1 (which is LH side), sensor 1. The only parts location diagrams I see show "Sensor 2" for Bank 1 and Bank 2. Where are "Sensor 1" located for each bank???

I have not but the code seems to indicate it is a O2 sensor stuck at lean?

I'm guessing I just need to replace Bank 1 Sensor 1?

Updated with info from Techstream. Any help appreciated as the codes don't come up under a search here.

Next time it triggers I will read the code in Techstream. It is possible my reader can't pull it (ScanGauge II). I pulled the 2 main vacuum leads at the front of the intake (I think these are the two main vacuum sources?) and plugged them one at a time. Neither had an effect on the idle surge.

OK so I just did a little inspection with a probe stethoscope. PS pump is making a pretty audible whine. Pulled the belt and it spins freely without grit. Had a look at the reservoir. Not empty but low. Looks like there is a slow weep from the PS unit. I don't know if that is the cause of the...

Wife called me today with CEL/VSC TRAC/VSC OFF lights. Got it home and confirmed that the only code on it is P0000. Cleared it. Truck is idling oddly - changes by about 100 RPM every second and idle sounds bad. Plugs are fairly new (less than 10k mi). Any clue what would cause this behavior...
