I am having similar issues with my 78 California FJ40. I am getting so sick about it, I sometimes consider ditching it over a cliff.
I'm having the following issues; somewhat difficult to start when cold - seems to crank slow, seems to run great at idle and low speed, sometimes cannot start...
I may be. I had purchased a new carb, but it was missing one port that was on the original. It was listed and company confirmed it was a 78 California carb setup.... have any pictures of the carb?
I'll have to look into the seat position. I can't see where it has been modified. Thanks for the info on the mounting position of the separator - I thought it was likely intended to be vertical, but I wasn't sure whether it could be horizontal or if that affected it's function.
So, the PO of my 78 FJ40 (California) fabricated a custom cover to hide the vapor separator and all the hoses, etc. - the vapor separator itself is just laying in the space in the horizontal position (see photo). Been trying to find any 'position' related threads. The info I have found with...
