Sounds good, I will take the pulley. I will try to send you a PM? I thought it was odd not to have a spacer as most fans do. The FJ40 was purchased from the original owner so I know who removed it. My first FJ so I am slowly learning. Great site and I appreciate the expertise!

The one on the right appears to be correct.

The flange appears to be pressed on. Moving the flange of the water pump in will cause the fan to contact the harmonic balancer pulley.

Thank you for the heads up! I did not know these fans like to grenade. I am trying to correct a fan belt alignment issue when installing a 1984 2F engine in a 1971 FJ40. I installed the deeper water pump so the fan would clear the 2F harmonic balancer which has an additional fan belt groove...

Why? I have complete short water pump, pulley, fan clutch and plastic fan from a 1984 FJ60, but they will not work with the 1971 fan shroud.
