I also ordered one of these Toyota style switches because the round switch kept pushing the delivery date out on me. I've got all of my switches location blanks full of new accessories switches for lockers and things like that so I'm not sure...

I essentially did what you have in the first diagram many years ago. It works great! The red switch on the right is what cuts the ground to shut off the voltmeters.

Nice. Do you have a link for that socket holder? Everything I'm finding is for 2"+ gauges and this little guy shows as 1". Maybe the face is 2" and the rear is 1" now that I think about it.

Why adding the switch? I have a similar volt meter in my car and it only comes on when the car is life.

I believe your top diagram would be a proper circuit in parallel .....Someone will correct me if wrong but I believe the ground going through though the switch is what you want. When the switch is off, power will be going to your battery 1+ 2+...

That's a great question. I've been thinking about mounting it down flat on the console somewhere. The rest of my dash is pretty much maxed out with accessories I've added over the years. Can you send me a pic of your installation?

Yes your top diagram is the one I'd go with. And I love this mod.. I have it in all 3 of my current trucks. Where are you mounting the volmeter? in my 80 I replaced the cig lighter with this.

The style of dual battery voltmeter I'm using only has three prongs 2+/1- and is designed to be on all the time but since my cruiser sits for long periods I wanna be able to switch it off. Low side / ground side switching fits the bill for me.
