I have recently prchased a FJ25 from Queensland and while searching through HI8MUD found a pic of it in an earlier Resto. Does anyone have any info on it. I don't have the plate numbers yet as it currently in transit to Melbourne.

Cheers Dobster

Welcome! It's good to know who owns it now. I updated the info in the count thread (it's #24). All I know of it is that picture from the Ebay auction........dated 6/12/2003. I can't believe it was that long ago. It didn't really age well, did it? :frown:

Tell us more when you get a chance. :bounce:

Nice!!! Looking forward to more info/pics. and welcome, Dave

Thanks for the Welcome. I bought it after watching it on eBay in March 09 - was advertsied as a 40. Two girls owned previously and did some work on the interior, but it has basically sat where it is for the past three years. It is still running and the mechanic who looked over it gave it the thumbs up. It will make a nice addition to my 40 that is currently in resto also.

I must say Dobster that I am envious of that 40. Faded glory but it has such a stud look to it. Thanks for sharing the photos!!!

Fantatsic Pics from the Thiess of old and great info - Thanks. I deal with them often in another capacity aswell as Snowy Mountains Engineering Corpoation. They are both companies now a long way from the origins of these Landcruisers.

It has arrived in Melbourne

We emptied the rusted fuel out of the tank, bled the brakes and topped up the clutch master cylinder and in less than 90 minutes she was up and running. No smoke from the engine - Brakes are dodgey as, and the clutch needs work, but steering and motor were better than expected.

It looks as though it was originally Mint green.

Rust in the door sills and surface rust most places. The floor pan especially under the fuel tank is rusted right through - all can be returned to former glory.

She will probably sit still for the next 6 months while I get the forty back on the road, but I have a few questions on its originality - I'm pretty sure FJ25s didn't have coil springs in the rear. I'll post the questions and the pics individually

But here a few pics to get started (complete with family members).

Obviously the indicator lights are not original. it has sealed beam Lucas head light - I would have presumed that originally it would have been bulbs? The head lights have a hinged rim - Correct?

I also presume the bumper is some what made up?

More to come later but can you see anything else obvious with the motor and engine bay? Fuel pump is new so not expecting anything original here.

That is one great find, and the fact that you got it running so quickly, well that's just icing on the cake....................................................CONGRATULATIONS !!!:cheers::cheers:

What caught my eye the most was the way they seem to have added a booster to your brakes...as an addition on top of your master...never seen that before...ever :eek::eek:

Very cool find...glad you are restoring it back to her former glory...looking forward to reading more as you go along :clap::clap:

Yep some missing here too.

Jim you had a list of things such as the winker switch which I presume to be the indicator switch. If you are any chance to put your thoughts down again I'd appreciate it.

I had a question about the data tags - these have been sprayed over -do you think paint stripper be too harsh and wreck the paint underneath?

More pics and questions to come.

Cheers Dobster

Dallas did a nice job on his tags in the 45 section...let me know if this helps!

It was a bit chilly outside today so I opted to spend a day inside playing games and cleaning/restoring knick knacks on the FJ45.

The VIN plate on the firewall was a disaster. If you guys recall from earlier in this thread:

Now I have polished it up and repainted it. I know it's not perfect, but it took a lot of work so I thought I would share.

I had to sharpen a toothpick and dip it into black paint as shown:

Just another one of those small things as the project comes together.

Thanks for still tuning in to my thread.

Thank you for the comments.

how long polishing?
5 min. I have an old dryer motor mounted on a bench grinder stand with a cloth wheel on it. Hardly any pressure, since the vin plates are a bit important and flimbsy. So I just used a wee bit of polishing compound and gently held it against the wheel to let it do the work.

how long painting?
15 min. It is hard to get in between the letters.

only with a toothpick?
Yes, only a sharpened toothpick to paint with and then a DULL exacto knife (so you dont scratch the metal) to clean up the letters.

special paint?
Testors black model paint.

clear coated?
Yes, I used just a rattle can clear (don't panic when you spray it it looks dull, but will flow out nice and dry perfect). I put on a single coat, just enough to protect the metal and black paint.

I am working on cleaning the frame today and trying to figure out what to use to clean/prep the underside of my metal lid (the top). That nasty foam, old glue, it is just gross after removing the old headliner.

Have a good day everyone!
