I went to Southern California this last weekend. While I was at Gene's build I can't claim to have been of any help at all. I did get a chance to meet a guy bunch of guys. I was amazed at how much got done on Saturday alone. Plus in the afternoon got a chance to go over to see TLC and meet Jonathan Ward who gave of a tour of his shop where he is building the Icon. Very cool!

Now for why I was there. I bought a tub from Georg (orange45) that he put up for sale. Here's a link https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/225244-1963-fj40-fst-tub-great-shape.html On Saturday spent alot of time getting the tub ready to remove and pulling a few other goodies from the vehicle. Being around cruiser for along as I have you get a feeling for a diamond in the ruff. While this thing looks really ruff nothing could be further from the truth. Not only no rust other than light surface rust, but no bondo or dents. The only body work that needs to be done is some holes that don't belong there filled. While this was titled as a 1963 it's an earlier tub here's a few pictures.

Pallets? You need to heat by burning pallets too? :D

John, post up some close-up pictures. If this is as rust-free as I hear, it would be a good example of what to look for in a tub. ;)

Plans I don't know for sure, just couldn't let a rub free tub get parted out. So I guess the plan is to restore it back to original. I have a couple of early frame with the engine that's stamped on the VIN plate.

It was great toi meet you too Dan I ready like your tow vehicle.

Pallets? I brought those with me. I've never hauled a tub by itself before. Wasn't sure how much pressure you can put on the rockers. I wanted it strapped tight since I was traveling at night and couldn't watch it real close. Also an axle with wheels on it is easier to move and stays put better on pallets.

Close up pictures? What you can't tell by my tease pictures:rolleyes: Tonight I'll post some more. I'll ever take some fresh ones:D

I know what you mean about it being parted. Looks like you have one axle on there, but if you need a set of front and rears from a late 60s (not ball and claw) drum brake 40, they are sitting in S. Phoenix just waiting for you free for the taking. Also have random junk that might help you along. If you want the axles, let me know and will arange a time to meet up for them. I would be happy to have them out of my way.

I read this and started LOL I'm sick I got a disk brake axle sitting on stand. But I will keep this ball and claw centered rear pumkiin with the off set driveline. Thsi will be old school all the way. But thanks for the offer.

My 45 and the 73 soft top in the pictures will probably end up with newer drive trains but this one will be just alittle ahead of the 25s.

Which bring up an interesting point. You always see the 80/100 debate going on. I wonder why that never happend between the 25 and early 40. Because everbody knows the 25 was the last real Land Cruiser:grinpimp:

ha

you ARE sick! :p I hope seeing Gene's wrecked LV will at least make you consider a dual brake resevoir in your "old school all the way" build.

If I planned on using it as a DD I would. But for a vehicle for kicking around on old forest service roads not really a concern. Been driving my 68 with the old school brakes since 1974. I should be more worried about no roll bar:eek:

John, I thought you were about to cut one or two out of the herd? Instead it looks like you are adding to it, which I am finding is much easier than parting with one.

What a terrific project, please keep us up to date with pics as you move through the rebuilt; there can't be five guys in the country who know more about early Crusiers than you do and I am sure we will all learn from your progress.

I still planning on cutting a few from the herd. Really don't need four FJ25s. This one has been in the works for a least a month. Been in the market for one of these for a few years. Couldn't pass up a change to own FJ40LB. Most are FJ40L or FJ40LV. Need something to put my stamped bezel on. Plus I have a feeling that replace tops will be available soon.

A few of the inside rear corners and the passenger's rear outside. That light area on the bottom of the corner is not a rusted spot but sun light hitting that area.

wow, amazingly rust free for it's age and straight too. Nice job for saving it.

Does anyone know what color this green is. I'm pretty sure this cruiser was the off white but I like the green alot better.
