Ok, i have heard lots about the late 80's crowd shoving 100 series pads in the front to improve braking. What about us? i know the hdj's brakes (mines a 91) are smaller than north american spec. I heard John at ATEB talking about swaping in Lexus brakes but never mentioned what year. Do the calipers and rotors just bolt on? are the brake line connections the same? and do the backing plates bolt up. I hear most just cut the backing plates to fit,but im kinda anal about that kind of stuff and will want the rite ones. That being said, what about the stock rear HDJ disc's are there biger N/A spec ones that will bolt on?

I was just going to shove Hawk pads in and see if it was going to be a good enough improvement but unfortunately they quit making them for the HDJ's.
After only yeilding 35,000 KM on this last set (cant remember the brand, got em from 4wheel auto) i need to upgrade !!

John did mine. He has an LX450 rotor which is much bigger and thicker, new calipers and blackhawk pads. All you must do is trim the stone shields. The difference is awesome. You will warp the stock front rotors quickly. We didnt change my rears.

Will 15 inch rims fit over the lexus brakes or did you need 16's?

16 inch only.

what do u mean you will warp the front stock rotors quickly?, just by changing pads u mean?

Nope. With my high mileage daily drive technique I had pulsation and poor stopping from my new oem brakes within 5000km. The improvement in pedal feel and braking performance is quite apparent with the bigger front setup. I am comparing to a totally new OEM setup I had put on. Stock = heavy truck with little brakes.

I think ill just order the parts, Saw John and he showed me the difference in rotors........ wow big difference in diameter. 1st toyota online ships from tacoma washington, and there prices on actuall toyota brake parts is cheaper than aftermarket. The lexus rotors are only 80$us each and oem pads for 50....... cant beat that. I think i will buy the lexus backing plates instead of cutting the stock ones down as they are only 47 a piece, im anal like that.

1st toyota rule! I always get my parts from there and they ship to Canada USPS so, no brokerage fees or junk like that..
Do you mind posting the list of part numbers you are going to order please? My brakes are due for new pads and may want to do the same upgrade.
Cheers,

Well crap! I have brand new OEM front rotors (the small early 80 series) and pads sitting in a box beside me, and I paid wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than that.

100 Series Brake pads: 04465-60220

80 Series Brake Rotors: 43512-60090

All you have to do is use 1993 to 1997 FZJ80 front pads, rotors and backingplate, huge improvement in braking power. I haven't done the rear but I assume the 1993 to 1997 parts will fit and the 1993 to 1997 rear rotors are way cheaper than the JDM rear rotors at about $170 each.

good to know boys, thanks for the heads up.
i guess i will ask more questions when i need to change mine.
just checked the front. I will check the rear in a few days once i lift the back up.

Sorry, I am confused now...!! Is it LX450 pads and rotors, or 100 series pads and rotors or 1993-1997 FZJ80 pads and rotors..??!!
Any clarification is much appreciated..
Cheers..

What is the name if the stealership that you order parts from in washington?
name and phone number please, i need to keep it in my records:)

May as well do the upgrade caliper as well- No trimming and on vehicles this age it is good insurance (PM). Don't forget to flush the brake fluid.

I believe you want the lx450 (same as fzj80) rotors, calipers and backing plates. 100 series pads.

And 1STtoyota in Tacoma washington is the place semi-local for deeply reduced prices of factory parts. .... Only get cheap parts from there online store though.
