i posted up about wanting to put a trbo on my 84 2H and got good reviews on the turbo glide and safari kits. then i did some more searching and it looks like a few guys out their own "kits" together. i did'nt find much info about this but there was a ton of info about the 3B turbo conversions?

anybody have any good info of what they're running on their 2Hs?

thanks in advance!!!

Member Goerge the 2H is a lightweight and does not like a whole lot of boost without skirt oil cooling.

Seen a couple trashed 2hs due to turbo over boost and a couple more naturally aspirated units that were lugged and pretty sure the egts shot off the chart and munch a piston and ring.

Edit, to be fair most guys have seen stupid high miles out of this engine under good care.

Myself I have seen some 3b head failures but never have I seen a piston or ring failure on a 3B.

Hey

I have been researching alot about turboing the 2H. I have one too. I bought it with the turbo, a Garrett something from something... As you might know it is virtually impossible to determine what turbo it is, if it has been taken from a standard installation.

I started two threads on the whole 2H issue:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-...rade-hj60.html

And:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-...ssible-2h.html

Both has a lot of info on the 2H, a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people here have contributed and helped me alot, if considering turboing the 2H, theres lots of info, pros and cons.

thanks for the replies and input guys.

i plan on running 10 pounds of boost or less. i'm also going to install an EGT gauge. this rig will hopefully be my DD, but idrive like a grandpa on the street so abuse won't be an issue. i also do all my own maintenance and tend to take pretty good care of my rigs mechanically.

There is a rare early 80's Dodge diesel 1/2 ton that was equipped with a NA engine called the Mitsubishi 6DR5. It is identical to a Toyota 2H, same volume and everything, some small changes even has the same bolt pattern as a Toyota. It was also a slug like the 2H so kits were common. I found a Rajay turbo kit for this engine, and adapted it to my 2H. It was not hard at all. Boost was also perfect, 6psi on flats, up to 9psi on hills. PSI totally controlled my how much fuel you give it. Worked awesome, truck is still running great years later and lives in the Yucatan and is driven daily. Here is a link off my site...
