This is an interesting brass "NI" lock with a "TOYOTA TEQ MOTOR" key. 37mm wide. The Toyota key appears to be for an ignition and is stamped with a standard key number on one side, and the number 331 on the reverse. The lock is also stamped 331 on the bottom. Because of the matching 331 lock/key numbers, you might surmise they are an original matching pair. However, upon closer examination, that might not be the case:
Can't go back in time to figure out its exact story, but it's fun to theorize and it's cool that it opens with an old Toyota key. Price includes shipping to the US.
- The underside of the key has an unusual weld where the stopper is located. The weld is filed to a 90 degree angle, essentially making a more hardy stopper.
- The key protrudes unusually far when inserted to the stopping point in the lock.
- The side 331 stamp and bottom 331 stamp on the lock are different fonts and different sizes; however, the side stamp on the lock and key are the same size and font. Not a standard practice for a key manufacturer to stamp in two different places with two different fonts from all that I’ve seen.
