My First car was a 78 Spitfire, bought it for $800 when I was 15 in 1991, spent a year working on it. The day that I turned 16 I went to take my license exam in it and the 400lbs DMV worker couldn't get into it. Had to take it in my mom's Buick.

The thing was so light I could launch it over creek over passes, all four tires off the ground. The slam shift transmission, push buttom over drive, the folding forward bonnet - all the girls loved it. All the guys hated it, a bunch of football players once picked it up and wedged it between two cars across two spaces just for a laugh. Me and my buddies got even, left one of their VW bugs on its roof.

My father caught me flying down a country road with the speedo pegged. I never got to drive it again. He chained it to a tree through the mag wheels and the first cash offer got it. He broke my heart, but saved my life.
