Saginaw 4 bolt, Scout, 60/70, Minitruck, Astro van, Jeep J20... So many options.
I figured I should start this thread, rather than hijacking the other further.

I'm sure Vern can comment... But I've heard Minitruck is more of power assist, and Saginaw may even have too much... "steering on Novicane"
60 series falls somewhere in between...
Scout? Astro van?

Saginaw 4 bolt boxes seem the most likely to be availible in 20 years.
60 series seems more straight forward.
Minitruck seems a little light for a heavy 40 with 33s... Even though reportedly OK.

I'm not sure how that is much less work than a sag box.

I still don't understand why you're eliminating mintruck as an option?

The 60 isn't that much less than a Saginaw... No cutting the crossmember... No messing with the 1/2" thick winch plate... The winch will still fit (if I ever get back to the rewire)... Can still run the PTO winch I've got (if I decide to go that way... If it'll work with the 350)... Oh did I mention, no cutting through the frame... :D I'd much rather unbolt and modify my fabbed shock tower than cut the front crossmember.

Minitruck seems like a somewhat underpowered quick fix... I've heard of people redoing Minitruck conversions because they couldn't cut it... Never Saginaw... Or 60. Although, there doesn't seem to be as much on 60 series conversions.

ah ... Didn't know you had the pto winch... that makes it tricky then... easiest solution is to give it to me...

Vern has minitruck. I think the guys redoing them have 12.5" x 35" tires ect... I think Vern's running 33x12.5? Perhaps he can give you some first hand experience... your tires aren't really that wide and it should be just fine...

I put 60 ps on a 55 frame a while back. was actually pretty easy with ford shock towers or similar.

It's a toss up for me. Mini truck is much easier, but I don't like that relay that runs for and aft , I had to turn my steering stops a fair bit to stop my tires from hitting it.

It will also depend on whether Jonathan lets me swipe his steering box...

The PTO isn't stock... It's a 6600 lb one off a British Matador. It'd likely fit with a sag box, if the shaft would clear.

Starting to reconsider a scout box... Don't know how easily I could find one. Might be simpler than a 60 box.

Got a line on a 77 scout II box... So I think I'll likely go that way.

scout conversion was not hard at all... i plated the frame for the box and sleeved the holes for the bolts... then 4x4 labs high steer arms with 6 shooter knuckles ..:D

Got a line on a 77 scout II box... So I think I'll likely go that way.

Got the Scout box. The input shaft is the smaller one (3/4 30 spline) with a flat side... So I believe it is a 78-80 box. It's a 4.25 lock to lock Saginaw box. Now for a shorter pitman arm.

I've got the stock one that's stupid long... And a shorter one that bends upward... But I believe I need one that bends down... Anyone want to trade... Got one to sell?

steering u joints get pricey.. mine cost the same as the box and pump...

I'm expecting that the ujoints and slip shaft will be the most expensive part... But, not an area I wish to cut corners.

Got the pitman arm, some steel plate, and access to pipe/rod.

Still need the custom drag link... Once I figure out which TREs I'm using.

i went one tons do to the fact that i can walk into a auto store and more than likely they will have them on hand... trail gear sells the FJ80 tre and west shore spring is a dealer...
