Im in the tucson area and im looking for a place that would rebuild my carb.

I have a '69 FJ40 with the OEM carb. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Tucson area?

Desert Sun Auto

Tell them Jason sent you, I worked there for the first 5 years I got into turning wrenches, it's the only place I send people to in Tucson.

Calypso Automotive on Kliendale is good - he's got a 40 in the shop. It wa recommended by another Mud Member, and I have always gotten good service from them.

Look 'em up on the interwebs...

You need to check and see if he would do a carb rebuild, though.

Two carb on the 69. Early to 3/69 one barrel. Then 3/69 to 9/69 two barrel. The one barrel was the same as the 68 but the two barrel changed with the 70 model in 10/70. The correct 69 two barrel with have the large air filter with a stud out the top of the carb. The 70 thru 74 two barrel went back to the clamp on the carb. Might be worth a PM to one of the carb experts here on mud. Jim C. or Mark A.

I had a local old-school mechanic rebuild one for my '71. Still couldn't get it to quit being problematic so I sent it to Jim C. He took a long time and was a little hard to communicate with, but I got my previously rebuilt carb back with a whole list of things that Jim fixed. If you have the time, it may be worth letting someone really familiar with these do it.

Try Andy at NIHOTO on 560 E Fort Lowell Rd 622-3315
Does good work. Not real cheap though.
Good Luck
