Well, I wanted to wait until I knew more about it, but I felt moraly (sp) obligated to post it for you homies.

Found this very clean looking 80 while visiting a local 4x4 shop over the weekend, with barn doors and crystal clear lenses, etc... do you notice anything (else) different about it?

I guess the title is a dead give away, eh?

The shop was closed, but I'm going back there hopefully soon (it's about 1hr drive from my place).

Probably halogen projector and perhaps H1 for highs. But you could put in a nice HID projector, or better yet, bi-xenon projector in there, without the textured lenses...

Some thing I notice right off the bat:

1. Those chrome mirrors must have been added on later (only came with the 96 black edition as far as I know)

2. Clear signal lenses under the headlights, clear side-indicator lights, clear parking lights

3. HID headlights?

4. I can't quite make out what he has stuck on the grill to the right of the "TOYOTA" logo

5. He has reflectors on the sides of his front bumper

6. He has extend-a-flares on

It says "turbo" for the turbo diesel model(s).

Haven't noticed them on others (if they are there) before. Maybe he just stuck them on.

Its not HID, it just the black headlight housing with low beam projector.And it looks like older 92-94 model year. Same crystal clear lights and same chrome mirrors housing like the one i got.
You can see the Hi- Beam its not HID bulbs.

Just to clarify, you cannot tell whether projectors have HID or not just by looking from the outside.

Anyway, like I said above, I doubt it's got HID, but you can convert it easily, either by retrofitting (if the cut-off is good enough) or by fabbing/grafting something like Hella/Bosch/Valeo, etc... low/bi-xenon projectors in there.

And let's not get into the effectiveness of HID highs, compared to good ol' halogens in real life use, not to mention the glare they would cause with textured lenses in low or high.

I got a set on my 92......pair of new OEM on Ebay 3 years ago.......$40 I treid to find someone to swap me at the time.....but no takers, now I love em

and they are not only on 96's......they are the base model mirrors on most NON US 80's........as well as chrome door handles.

Where can I get some of those chrome side view mirrors home slice?

One more thing.. the last quarter window different than U.S version (not slide)

The stock ones in front were both replaced by the Recaro-type bucket seats.
