I searched and found the all the threads that relate to adjusting it, but didn't come across anything that about replacing it. The cable has frayed, I ordered a new and after looking to where it goes...somewhere into the tranny!

Any advice or directions from here?

You'll need to drop your tranny pan to replace that cable. On an A440 there's a plastic piece on the outside that clips onto the housing that you need to unclip, then the end of the cable is attached to a piece that you need to bring towards you before you can remove the stud attached to the cable off of its hole.

I think there's also a clamp on top of the tranny that hold the cable in place that you need to remove to snake the old cable off and then secure the new one on. It's held on by one bolt. You'll need to remove your shifter and shifter plate to access this.

So it can be done without having to drop the tranny, that's good news.
