Hi folks,
My outer handle broke a few months ago, and I finally got around to fixing it. What broke is a plastic snap fitting that attaches the linkage from the outer handle to the latch mechanism. The FSM isn't much help - it doesn't have enough detail of this mechanism. The display at the dealer isn't much better. But when I took it apart and carried the part in, one of the women behind the counter knew exactly what it was and where to find it! She said they sell alot of them. Was about $2.50 and the part number is 69293-12040 - "SNAP, DOOR OUTS"

edit - cruiserdan reccomends 69293-89102 https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=8593415&postcount=14

Damn.... snap! pun intended. Thanks, good to know for future reference. Aside from calling CDan sometimes I have to run to the local Toyo dealer. Our local dealer isn't to bad, but in reference to an 80 I have to hand them the broken parts to sort out what I need. I all ways buy from CDan but when shipping is more than the part.... you know.

I had the same problem, my local dealer wanted to sell me the WHOLE mechanism. I did a little "zip tie" fix.
Thanks for the post, I can do a proper repair now.

Yea, I tried to do a zip-tie fix the night before a ski trip - 15 degrees, windy and holding a flashlight in my mouth :D Said the hell with it, one of the kids can crawl in the back!

And again, thank you.

FYI, 2019 update: Local toyota dealer says CruiserDan's preferred part is discontinued. They have 69293-12040 - "SNAP, DOOR OUTS in stock for $3.

Thank you, Tokyem! I can confirm that this part is a perfect replacement for the driver’s side door handle rod on my ‘96 LX450.

My local dealership had the part but no record of any snap for the linkage. They started talking about buying the whole assembly and I was relieved to pull up the pet number based on this thread.

For good measure, I also picked up the passenger side linkage, part number 69293-12030. This one is clear, but is the same size.

This part works for the upper rear hatch linkage mechanism?

Just for confirmation, does your part number work for the upper rear hatch linkage mechanism? (PN 69293-12040)

Thanks

As I described in the first post - that's the best information I have.
