Firewall access for large cables

OK did the search thing and everything pointed to the same access point, the clutch cylinder pass thru. That hole is now completely full and I have just one more 1/0 negative cable to bring into the cab and I see a couple of possibilities but wanted to see what the community thought first.

I saw BRIAN4X4's info about passing it under the truck and through the fender but without pics I couldn't wrap my head around it. I can picture running small gauge wires into the cab but not thick 1/0 cable. Its the last puzzle piece needed to finish my wiring before I head of for Yellowstone so hoping for some ideas.

BTW, I see there are two grommets that the main harnesses are going through now. And I "could" wiggle a cable through one of them but not sure if its a very good idea. What say you!?

I ran 2 fairly large power cables for my amplifiers, along with many other smaller wires, through the round rubber grommet on the firewall. I cut the inside of the grommet out to make it an "O" shape (or donut), then cut into the "donut" to make it a "C". After that you can route your cables, then slip the grommet over the cables and into its hole. I can post pictures tomorrow if you'd like.

Make a new one. Hardware stores sell rubber grommets in various sizes- just drill one where you would like to have it!

There's a 1" diameter hole in the thick insulation above the brake pedal. I was unsure where it was going to come out so I took a small drill bit and did and explatory hole. It exits on a nice flat spot on the firewall which a grommet fits nicely.

I drilled a new hole in the passenger side and ran the cable through a Wire Seal I got at West Marine.

There is another OEM grommet on the passenger side of the trans tunnel. Not as user friendly as the clutch one.

Umm sounds like you guys are talking about the clutch master grommet which is full. Unless there is another one there that I don't know about?

I have no problem doing that, I think, as long as I know that others have done it and there was no problem.

Any chance you have pics of the location? I would just hate to drill and have an engine computer on the other side of it

So are suggesting bringing 1/0 cable down through the trans tunnel and then up into the cab through that grommet?

What about the two grommets on the passenger side of the firewall. They both look like they should go through but I can't see them because of the evaporator.

Using some "lube" (don't ask), I was able to get both 1/0 cables through the clutch pass thru. This includes another wire bundle as well.

FWIW, I used one of these bushings from Crutchfield for my amp installation.

With some black silicone caulk added to complete the job, it made for a really clean installation.

If I have to run many more cables I am going to be in trouble with my dual battery, two amps, aux fuse blocks, inverter, Sat. int, etc. both of my large gromets are over flowing with wires....most have 4gauge or bigger running to them.

Well I thought I was going to be in trouble running TWO 1/0. It worked fine and now I dont have to worry anymore because I can install in the cab.

Yes....my inverter spec'd 2 gauge and I think my sub amp spec'd 1/0, 4 channel 4gauge etc.....

Well there ya go, if you go with power distro in the center console you only needed to bring one set and been fine.

One set yes...but what gauge 4/0 if you have devices that are already spec'ing large gauge you have to have something that can handle everything....

You are right, however, it makes things simpler. As modding goes though one thing leads to another and pretty soon your gromets are full never said I had forsight.

THIS Is why I never pull the trigger on a mod. I HAVE to over analyze and see where it impacts something else I want to do. Heck I haven't done the leather seats yet because I wanted the heater AND the massage for both seats for the

But I didn't want to do those until I knew what I was going to do for aux power and the location of the fuse panel. Now I'm a little further along.
