Biggest Tire on Stock Suspension?

I was curious about large of a tire I can put on the stock 16" wheel with the stock suspension. I may upgrade my suspension with a lift in the future but not in the budget now. Looking for a beefier look.

Also--I have Dunlop Grandtrek and they are absolutely horrible. I have had them balanced three times and they still cause my 80 to shake above 65 mph. Also tried the phase balance system with a hunter with no success.

Getting into the mods and also will be installing an ARB bull bar in a few weeks.

This is a dead horse, well beaten.

305/70/16 will not rub. Anything taller or wider will under certain conditions.

You'll get some varied answers on this one. I wouldn't go larger than a 285/75-16 without lift.

This is my daily driver-95% highway travel. The Dunlop's are horrible as stated previously. I have been told that the Michelin LTX's were specifically designed for the Land Cruiser.

I did review the FAQ section and just wanted a couple of specific responses. I do want to lift the 80 eventually, do not want rubbing, do not want significant performance decrease, and most of all I want my current tire vibration to disappear!

So the net-net: What manufacturer is has the best highway tire out there between 285 and 305 that will not be a beast to keep balanced and have minimal to no vibration?

Yep. Really like my Duelers. If you look on ebay you can find a good deal on H3 take-off tires in a 285. I have also seen the Nitto TerraGrapplers and they look really good and have good reviews.

I have 285/75 Revo's and they are very good, BUT if I could do it over I would get some 255/85's in a similar tread design. A little taller and narrower.

I put the Revos on my wife's Expedition and loved them in the snow and on the highway. Unfortunately, I only got 30K out of them and they ain't cheap!

Just a heads up from first hand experience: Revos wear like iron. Nitto TG's wear like the soft rubber compound they are.

Same vehicle. I got 50K out of a set of BFG AT's, the Nitto's are getting ready to go with 30K on them. They are a great tire, but do not last.

In my book; minimum tread life is 40K. Nitto's don't make the grade, despite being an excellent tire.

Oh yeah - biggest tire. My vote is 285 75 16. There are others on the board however that will tell you to stuff 315 75 16's on your truck. Believe who you want.

They make lift kits for a reason.

I have 295 Nitto's on mine, other than being too small I am very happy with them. At 31K miles including a bunch rocky trail time they have 9/32" of tread left.
