2nd-Gen 4Runner Question: Found this under my dashpad today.

Here's how I found out. Decided to make my wife think I was nuts and tackle this on my own.

Tried to make a patch so I could glass the entire dash later on, sadly it did not hold like we wished, it needs a complete replacement or complete thick glass over.

New hawtness.

Pulled out the stereo instead of leaving it (unplugged) in the dash frame to go ahead and fix my iPod integration lines.

Yes, 1995 and yes it has a cable driven speedo, not electronic like some others, the lube looked torched so I redid it.

Right about here is where the neighbors and wife started to worry I was a little nuts.
~Who tears apart a perfectly good running vehicle and why? :hhmm:
You gotta pull out the entire dash board setup with the frame so you can get to
the little twist clips and loosen the pad and remove it so you keep your VIN plate intact.

BTDT. Shortly after I got my FJ62 back in 2001, I decided I wanted to upgrade the speakers in the doors. Easy project, right?

Many hours later I was here:

I might have to check mine out one day to see if those holes are there.

I think it would look too weird to have gages way over on the passenger side. I'm thinking there is some other explanation for those holes...maybe someone will shed some light.

I would rather work under a truck then take a dash apart...one of my least favorite things to do.

Agreed, it just needed to be done either way so i could get the new piece in and fix some stuff that I'd been ignoring. I'm still not sure why the portholes are there. Maybe for crumple zones?

i am getting ready to tackle that for the second time, to replace my heater core, fix my heater control cables, and fix some things i too have put off for too long!

but a 1st gen is much easier than the 2nd gen!
