Ok guys brand new to the forum and I am in need of some expert opinions. I am looking at purchasing a 1985 Toyota Landcruiser BJ61V, this is a japanese import and its Right Hand Drive (KINDA COOL IMO). It is equipped with the 3b Diesel Engine and a 5 speed transmission, this thing is near spotless inside and out and its also equipped with a Factory PTO winch which appears to have never been used. My question is whats the skinny on a rig like this? I have been told it will get 25 to 30+ MPG??? What would be an expected price to pay?? Here is a pic I have of it let me know what yall think?

it all depends...with the one picture. 12k

mileage seems about right. it will not be a quick by any means.
x2. It's not the original color and have what I think are custom flares.

Ok, thanks for the input guys. I left out of the initial post that this truck has right about 100K miles on the diesel engine which I thought was pretty low for the year and I also noticed on the dash that it has angle and azimuth degree guages? Are those stock?? Very cool just never seen them before.. Sorry for not having more pics available but the interior on this thing is rediculous clean not a tear anywhere on it. It also appears to be a 24 volt system is that right?? Might make charging the cell phone interesting!!!

I apologize for rambling on here but 1 other thing I left out whats the general consensus on parts availability here in the states? Can the be had most places or is just a few places? Are they uber expensive compared to something more conventional?? Im literally a land cruiser NEWB I know nothing about them so what I learn will come from places like this and people like you guys. Thanks for any and all help I can get!!!

the gauges are stock, since it's something North America didn't get.

24V is not a big issue. Canadian HJ60 got a 24V system(like mine), electrical parts are available, but maybe not on the shelves at your local auto parts. Canada got also a lot of 12V BJ60 (and BJ42) with the 3B, so you should be able to source engine parts pretty easily too.

Most of the car charger adapter (like for cell phone) can be plugged into a 24V outlet. For everything else you will need to install a 24V->12V converter.

Do these vehicles have a typical gear ratio in the axles or are they like Chevrolet in that regard and it just depends on the day of the week it was made as to what gear ratio was installed? Also are the wheels that are on it the stock wheels or are they aftermarket?

I do not know about ratio, but are certainly not inconsistent as Chevrolet. But those are aftermarket wheels and tires, bigger and taller (and maybe the reason why it have custom fender flare).

12k isnt all that bad a price. is that landed and inspected? or is it already over here? I'd do a good lock in the wheel wells where they have molded those flares on. Overseas usually do amazing fab jobs or the worse job known to man. no middle ground lol. 3b parts are easy in canada with some digging or radd cruisers on speed dial. Buy it! buy it!

It looks good and cool, and i am suspecting the poster is the seller...fishing for a buyer or price. But I am Skeptical.

You should post more pictures of the interior, the underside, etc.

Having had an interest the Land Rover Defender import business I would be VERY skeptical of the seller, whether it is the poster or not.

If this thing came from Japan how can you be sure it is here legally, that it can be titled, or that it even belongs to the seller.

Are you talking to a reputable importer that has legitimate references?

Has this vehicle been flooded? How do you know?

This grey / black market business seems attractive until US Customs gets involved. if there are any shenanigans going on, they will find out, and you dont want to be on their bad side.

12K will get you one hell of a good Domestic Land Cruiser FJ.

Considering the presentation of exclusivity and singularity of this machine, naturally it should go for more.

So, find out more, and let us know.

One hell of a machine that could prove to be a great addition to a collection.

Q: Why is it called BJ61 and not BJ60 when it has a 3B engine?
Or is it a revised version of the 3B or a 13B?
How do you then call one with a 13B-T - BJ62?

Well actually heres the skinny, I am a dealer for mini trucks and it just so happens that I could purchase this from my exporter. However given my inexperience with such vehicles I am "FISHING" for information however its not so I can sell this rig its to determine if I want to buy it or not.

if your exporter is not willing to give you anymore info then I would pass.

The angle and azimuth gauges you are referring to are the inclinometer. not stock USA, but can be gotten here. they are cool.

The 24 volt is probably right. both exist, 12 & 24.

Well, you are being straight with us, thats cool.

I have a north american/ USA spec wagon, so i dont know the difficulties regarding parts. probably not a big deal.

I would still be wary about the title.

If that checks out you could have a very unique vehicle on your hands. ...and all that that entails!

I'm looking for a 60 series diesel as well and I got an email from Ryan @ ExtremeLandCruisers about them starting to bringing in more cruiser parts and cruisers as well. I hope to catch up with him sometime soon because what he is coming up with for prices is one heck of a lot better than everyone's fave cruiser dealer, Vintage Off Road :) plus, ExtremeLandCruisers is saying they will make it all squared away for the US market.

Personally, I am wanting a 60 series turbo diesel high top and the wife has told me I can even keep the DD 02 Dodge 1500 QuadCab if I keep the purchase price reasonable on the cruiser.

I'd be interested in who your importer is there mini, care to share that with me?

This should be in the diesel section.
If it is a 3B, it is a BJ60. I was not aware of high roof BJ60s though, so it could be a 2H. An engine bay pic would tell everything.

Parts availability for 3B or 2H is not a problem at all. You can get many parts from US dealers, everything from SOR, everything in Canada and everything in Australia.

Axle ratio will be 1 to 3.7 if it is stock. In the US the 62 series had 1: 4.10. The canadian BJ70s were 1 to 3.7 with the same third. It will definitely be either of those two.

12 or 24V, impossible to tell like this. Could also be 24V with 12V headlights.

The wheels are definitely not stock.

The inclinometer likely is.

100k miles and no rust for 12k is a good price in the US.
