My rig has those factory chrome wheels. They look pretty good, but have some surface rust in spots that I'd like to remove. I've been going at them with Nevr-Dull, but my elbows are running out of grease. What should I use to get rid of the harder to get surface rust?

If this would give me an excuse to buy a Dremel or some other new tool that would be great...:D

:princess: "WHAT DID YOU BUY THIS TIME?!?!"

I usually dont like to share my secrets but since its mud.....

Grab some aluminum foil and scrunch it into a ball. Dip the foil in a cup of water and then scuff up the rusty spots. Works like magic. To keep the rust at bay spray some fluid film on a rag and give the rims a quick wipe when youre done.

I use WD-40 and 0000 steel wool.

I'll try that too...in case my :princess: bitches about me using up her aluminum foil!

Toyota chrome is really tough stuff. If its really bad a wire wheel on a grinder works great, just did it to 4 really rusty rims and all it did was clean up the chrome, didn't hurt the chrome one bit. But now that the rust is gone I am going to paint them anyway...

I would clean wheels with good degreaser first. Then use #000 steel wool (Can start with #00 if really bad) with mothers (or alike). Always move in straight pattern. No circles. This will take off the heavy stuff. After that I use #0000 steel wool with mothers. That last polish I take off with a cotton buffing bit for the die grinder. You can get these at car paint places. Buy two. First for heavy cleanup and other for finish polish. I have done this to many sets of chrome wheels and works great. Some of the sets I've done I thought they where black when I bought them and turned out to be chrome. I love cheap cleaning solutions. Good Luck. Also there is a 1000 ways to do things and not just one is right....

I've heard of the Aluminum foil trick, but never tried it... Post up results if you give it a go.

Im tellin you man, works wonders. Its soft so it wont scratch the chrome as much as steel wool.

This works fast. Someone else posted this in a similar thread a year or two ago so I gave it a try. A little on a wet sponge takes the rust right off and polishes up nice.

Aluminum foil will be the first try since that's what I have at home....grilled up some potatoes in it this evening along with some steaks....woo hoo summer is here!

I hope to get my LC back Monday. It was at the garage since Friday...just saw a voicemail today that they called yesterday...I missed it!
