I've been working on this in the afternoons when its not too cold, I've still got a long way to go though. I want to end up with a swing away on the left for a spare tire, and a ladder on the right.

Has anyone used the spindles from iron pig??
Can you post pics of how it turned out?

I got the angle from work for free, thats how this whole thing got started. I think it's taking me a lot longer to get it where I want it because im using the angle. I think its gonna be a pain to box in.

Is there an advantage to removing the c channel the ties both sides of the freane together? I noticed most people do.

Any constructive criticism? Is there anything that I should be thinking about while I putting this together?

Tow points

Looking good. I'm not sure what size shackles you want to use, and you probably already checked, but make sure they can fit on your towpoints. The way mine was done, the holes were too close to the bumper and the shackles I wanted to use were too thick where the pin went through.

Hope that makes sense.

Edit:Maybe this picture explains it better.

exrsa - not a bad looking bumper, I like how you got a spot for gas cans. How did you mount the tire? I havent exactly figured out how im gonna do it.

I welded the swing arms together and tacked in the spindles.

I am using one of the ipor's spindles and its great. I dont know what your schedule is on thursday but I will be coming thru with my 60 if you want to take a look at my bumper.

got a broken hand so fab work has been slow.
I still need to get a plan for the latching system before I can drive it around with the new bumper.

sweet, looks sharp and simple , good call on the inside agle iron/ gusset for extra strenght.

Anyone know a good source to get some type of latch for the swing outs? I called iron pig but they're having some kind of problem with a supplier or something.

McMaster-Carr

Search for "Clamp" or "Toggle Clamp"

Thanks, for the link, I ordered two, I cant wait to install them. I havent driven the truck since I have these two arms swinging freely.

I also need to make some kind of support to put under the arm s in the center while they are closed.

got some more welding done. I painted the ladder before I put it on the truck and just stripped back the paint around the welds. Hard to see that in the picture. I've also welded end caps on the swing arms.

I got the latches in the mail but they're a little smaller than I thought they would be. They wont quite span the gap between the arm and the back of the bumper. I guess need to weld a small plate to the face of the arm to lower it 1/4"

I feel like I've seen people use one latch and latch the two swing arms to eachother. Will that work?

Your truck is looking Awesome man!!! BadA$$ Bumper!!!

I have one latch that holds the two swing arms together on my 4x4labs bumper. There is a stop welded to the bumper behind the swing arms. This arrangement works just fine. It's a pretty big latch, though.

88, if you don't mind me gratuitously padding my post count and cluttering up your thread, that is one nice bumper! I like the high mount for the tire and the way you tilted it. Nice work!

FWIW, I'd recommend two latches. And get the heavy duty ones!
