Sorry to do this to you guys, and I know that the ultimate answer is "It is worth what you'll pay for it.". I'm going to look at an 87 FJ60 today. It's pretty clean, 201k miles, OME lift (got to find out if it's a heavy or not. Anyone got the numbers to look for to identify?). It's also got new BFG A/T's, new alt, new WP, among other things. The good thing is that there is NO rust on the body. Need to check out the frame, though.

Reminder, I'm in SC, and the truck is in GA. So what do you think?

And now for the payoff, here are the pics...

it is worth...

Probably $4K to $5K if all the maintenance is up to date, brakes are good, power steering pump is not leaking, clutch has been replaced more than once, etc. I would look for water pump replacement in the records. If they guy has all the receipts, that goes a long way towards providing a level of comfort. if you cannot verify that it is mechanically up to date, maybe $3500 or so would be the number to get me hot and heavy. Great interior is worth a bit more, ask him not to start it at all today and feel the block to see if it is cold and then start it up with him to see how it easily it turns over and catches. Good luck. Nothing like the new to you truck feeling.:)

You can tell the difference in the med to heavy by the number of leaves in the springs. I forget if its four or five but someone else will chime in hear.

Just for a gage: I bought my 1988 FJ62 with 278,000 mi for $3,500. It came with good interior, new exhaust, rebuilt knuckles, and a few other things but it was stock.

I would think, if all else checks out, $4k for that would be an extremely good deal. $6K would probably be top end unless it looks like the guy was anal retentive about maintenance. I've seen similar vehicles being advertised for more than $6K - but I don't think there were too many takers.

Minus the lift, it is similar to mine. ('87, 187K, my interior is nicer, his paint looks a bit better, about the same body wise). I'd probably look for around $5k for mine. I'm not sure the lift adds any market value unless you are willing to pay for it.

That being said, with gas prices the way they are and how long I've seen landcruisers sitting with "for sale" signs on them, you could probably go a fair bit lower.

i got mine with 133 miles,1987 fj60 for $2,500.00 here in central florida without rust anywhere..now check this craigslist ad..... just for another reference....1983 Toyota Landcrusier FJ60 4X4 w/Winch

According to ARB CS004's are the OME heavy for a gas engine. They have a total of 8 springs in the rear and 6 in the front.

I would say between $ 3,000 - $5,000 but, no more than that. It has a few dents to be pulled and looks like some minor rust.

Have a look at the service records to see what has been done, you don't want too many surprises if you do buy it.

You also may want to check the:
- knuckles to see if they are leaking
- Tie rod ends
- brakes front and rear

Let us know what you decide, and good luck.

Looked at the truck, and then brought it home. The little surface rust was just that, surface rust. Frame was solid, and the truck came with a stack of receipts from Urban Land Cruisers in Atlanta where most of the work has been done.

Thank you all for the suggestions, it gave me a good basis for understanding truck and determining the value of the truck.

Can't wait to get into it a little more. I'll post more pics up in the next few days...

Congrats! When I bought mine I got all the receipts. It really adds a comfort level when you can see how often and how dedicated the po was with maintenance.
