In a TACO down by the river!!
I never found burping to be as easy as some explain it. I don't have much of an incline handy to park my rig on, and it seems I couldn't get the front passenger side high enough to make the filler neck the highest in the coolant system. My redneck solution involves a funnel and just enough duct tape to make a seal in the filler neck. Now with the extra elevation gained by the funnel, burping is easy!

Thanks. And I'm only part Redneck. I'm half Hillbilly, half Redneck, and half Back-woods
:)
LOL, you are definitely a combination of the above, I mean that in a good since too. You used the correct punctuation and grammar,, but failed at math. 1/2 Hillbilly+1/2 Redneck+1/2 Back-woods=1 1/2:whoops:. I'm laughing wit ya, cause I'm third redneck, third Irish, and third Back-woods= 1 interesting breed of an American:D. I think modifying a funnel is a great idea and I'm making me one asap. So, I can burp my FJ62.

Now all you have to do is cut a hole in the hood so you can burp and fill it while your going down the road

I can only imagine what your fart setup looks like !!

:D :censor:

Sad. You couldnt figure out how to do this with empty Pabst Lite cans?

BUMP for picture screwup...someone fix it!

How long do you usually have to let it run to get all the air out? Does it depend on how empty the cooling system is?

Thermostat has to open up of course, then a few minutes after that. Squeezing the top radiator hose helps get some of the air out. When you relax the hose with this setup, coolant gets drawn back in instead of air. When you've run for a while with no bubbles and can't seem to squeeze any more of of the radiator hose, put the cap back on and make sure the overflow tank is full. On your next couple of trips, your rig may still expel a bit of air into the overflow (and draw coolant back into the radiator if all is right).

Good luck!

In the FWIW bin:

My original radiator had a much bigger 'fill tube' and it was arc'd (mandrel bent?) 'around the corner';
you could pour into from a gallon jug a fast as jug would pour....
Never really needed burping.

Replacement has the skinny 90 degree sharp corner stuff....
Not only needs burping, but can't fill quickly either....

Works pretty damn well. I remembered that post when I filled my system back up at the end of Summer last year and it worked like a champ. Still took a while, but with constant squeezing of the upper radiator hose to "force" burp it while it was running, it wasn't too bad.

Certainly made filling the radiator less of a mess.

Update....

Much similar to soggy60's experience....

I replaced my aftermarket radiator with an OEM one (thanks for the deal orangej45!). The OEM radiator has a much larger neck on it than my old aftermarket one had. MUCH easier to burp, and have good luck burping even without the 'redneck' setup.
