I am looking for either a part number or an aplication I can take to my local autoparts store to buy a heavy duty replacement fan clutch for my SBC. I searched but only came up with FJ specific stuff. I have a 19"dia 7 -blade fan. I do not know what it came from.

I remember this being discussed from some time ago. TIA

Standard rotation, ask for an 84 GM PU with a 454, make sure it is a thermal.....
Reverse rotation, ask for an 89 GM with a 454 same deal...... thermal

Will you explain what you meanby 'thermal'? Does this mean it engages when the heat reaches a certain temp? What is the alternative, based on engine speed?

Dual electric fans with a thermostat!

Thermal is engaged via temp, and will have a coiled spring visiable on the radiator side.......the others a cheap oil filled jobbies that don't work as well....I think there are some pix here.http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=374071&highlight=cooling

Ordered a Hayden #2729 from AdvanceAuto.com. $57.99 to the house. Thanks for the info!

Local Napa was $80-ish, have to wait 2 days and pay for it first before they would order it. I love e-commerce.

Butch,
Great link to Pirate. I don't hardly ever go there but maybe I should.

Is the BeCool 40-replacement radiator really worth the big bucks? +$600-ish the last time I checked. It does fit nice and looks like it is supposed to be there. If I go this route where should I buy it?
