Will a 74 air cleaner assembly be a direct swap to 78 with no mods.

No. It can be done with minor mods tho.

Hi mark thanks for chiming in....what needs to be done? Bracket mounting points on motor head? Carb mount smaller?

1. Have you tried a search on this? I'm pretty sure Degnol posted pics when he did his.

2. You haven't given enough info to answer the question. Year and model of carb? Year and model of manifold?

3. The possibility of breaching the head gasket while the two forward head bolts are loosened for the installation of the early air cleaner bracket does exist. Every time I do one at the shop, I have the customer sign a waiver before I start.

1978 carb
1978 intake manifold
1978 2f

How is the H41 I sold you? was it the syncros?

On that combo, I think the ones I've seen have used the 1969 air cleaner lid. It has the hole in the center of the carb end for the center stud, and a wider mouth on the underside.

I don't remember the specifics on that H41 any more, but I think I tore it down and sold off the gear set without repairing that one.

Thanks mark!

That is interesting Mark. My 1970, for which I frequently have to refer to 1969 diagrams for "correct" parts, utilized a clamp from the air cleaner to the carburetor. Of course there is no way for me to know if this is OEM or not due to the age and no history of the vehicle but the top of the carburetor is very tall for allowing for clamping unlike later model carbs I have seen that would definitely require the stud in the center for securing the air cleaner lid.
