Hello you guys,

With the help of many on this forum, especially " My Wife Says No FJ " I was able to come up with a workable color for my 1962 FJ40 ROOF and BEZEL ( and body also ). MY WIFE S.N.FJ was kind enough to send along info on color cards that matched his early 60's FJ40 roof. I in turn had samples made from info he provided and decided the perfect match was on the TOP LEFT SIDE of the Card PICTURED BELOW where is says "60's ROOF WHITE FJ40". PLEASE NOTE that all the colors on that card are samples of potential early cruiser roof colors except for where it mentions Lily White. I came to realize a bunch of things during this process but one thing to NOTE: Cygnus White ( which is on the card in picture ) was NOT the color of ALL the early roof colors, maybe none. That is yet to be determined. I know there has been a bunch of great work done by alot of MUD members over the years. I am just adding my 2 cents based on what I just found out. ALSO attached for whomever needs the info is a picture of the FORMULA PPG for FJ40 " LILY WHITE " T-403 # 1. During my research I found out there were two LILY WHITE formula's and I am positive that the early cruisers were painted with both, causing me some confusion. The # 2 formula has alot more sandy yellow in it as you can see in the picture. I was able to dig out a very NICE sample piece of steel revealing my original paint ( that the hunter did not get to with his blue brush ) as a sample for my paint mixer friend. Big thanks to Chuck at Temecula Valley Paint for his time and effort that went into assisting me with getting roof, bezel and body color correct on my 1962 restore. I posted a pic below of him after getting permission. Thanks Chuck. His Formula, based on my clean Cruiser part that was hidden in the Barn for 50 years basically, was a success and a perfect match to the LILY WHITE T-403 # 1. The number 1 formula was NOT popping up on his computer here in CALIFORNIA, only the more " yellow, sandy color " number 2. So, a clean cruiser part was needed, one showing good clean, non faded original paint. Thank God I found it buried in my cruiser AND I can tell you guys that the color formula is completely accurate, very clean sample. I hope some of my efforts will help others with their early year cruisers. As mentioned, mine is a 1962. Any questions regarding any of these details regarding, ROOF, BEZEL, BODY just let me know. I spent a bunch of time and a little bit of money on working out these samples. It was worth it though. Thanks for everyones help and again, regarding the roof color assist, a special thanks to " My Wife Says No FJ". FJFJFJ

Hello you guys, Anybody know the correct color or shade of color for the LETTERING on the Bezel of my 1962 FJ40? Thanks, FJFJFJ

Not real close to the painting stage yet but this is my color too so THANK YOU!!!! for doing all the leg work.

I will polish my letters up and take a good picture and post here for you. Know clue what color but it is a maroon type color, mine is old but original still on the letters.

Here is my 1962 bezel. I taped off the letters before I rattle canned the rest with Ford Wimbeldon White. It matched the color of the rear of the bezel a lot closer then the front. As for the letters in the bezel that is the factory paint, I rubbed them down real good with rubbing compound to try and remove some of the oxidation. No clue if that will help you or not. There is not good documentation on the colors they used in 1962. You can search and or post in the fj25 section if you really want this to go back to 1962 correct colors, but most of those guys watch this forum as well. I still need to re sand blast parts of this fix the pitting then re rattle can, not sure what I will do with the letters, I wanted to keep the original paint in them.

Hi CJGOODE,,,,,,,,,,,,Really great of you to knock that out for me. It certainly helps being able to see the color up close even though pictures are ever perfect I can get a great idea of the color. Mine was painted over in black so,,,,,,,,quite worthless. Thanks man. FJFJFJ

I painted my 78 bezel 012 cygnus white and a 62 bezel the same same color and this is what it looks like . The painted chip looks very muddy but it looks much whiter on the rig. I sell PPG paint, and of all the whites this looked the best to me.

Hello Land Cruiser Kid,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks for the info and yes your right, the cygnus in my picture of samples does look a bit muddy and as you know photo's of these paints, depending on lighting can look really diffrent. What I want to point out to viewers is just the compare and contrast between many of these options that I hear about on MUD. I just decided to get samples of them all. The one on the top left side of my sample sheet that says ''60's roof white fj40'' is the one I decided on for my roof and my bezel and this one was taken from the roof of an early 60's fj40 in pretty decent shape. Thanks again for your input and that is one beautiful cruiser you have there man!! FJFJFJ

Thank you FJFJFJ! I did much like you, I made a pint of each white and then made my decision. It will look nice with the shade you picked, be sure to post pictures when you're done. Godd luck!
