You folk should check it out, I'd be interested to hear comments. thanks :)

Good work, and nice blog. Looks like you've become a "One-man Irish 40 Series Preservation Society"! Where did you source your new body panels from? I'm looking forward to further updates to your odyssey.

Whoopie! Another BJ40 (or is that TWO BJ40s?) saved from the rust demons.

Three saved! I'm working on the red one who's body is on it's side. The chassis will soon get hot dip galvanised.

Then it's reassembly time back to a rolling chassis.

Great to see another BJ will be back on the road again

Good work on your resto.

I've been in Ireland for two weeks and haven't seen a single 40. A few 120-series and a ton of Defenders though.

I would love to own a bj sometime in the future. Not an abundance of them in the states though... Nice blog

I just updated the blog there if anyone's interested?

I'm beginning the body work now!

Hi mate. Nice work! I love a BJ frame-off. I was over there for Christmas and I did not see a single J4 at all, but like 1911 says a bunch of LR's. Shame. I did some reading and the Irish Army used a few back in the 70's but they changed to LR's pretty quickly cause all the Cruisers rusted out so rapidly in the wet weather. I imagine there's only a handful surviving and from what I read they're all troopie's.

Where're you fray?

I had a nice green BJ with a 3B, H41 and Fairy Overdrive. It passed all the 1HZ powered trucks in the rough stuff.

What colour you going to paint it?

:)

I was thinking about a glossy read, with a tiny bit of peral. What do you think? I want to keep the original colour.

Also, I've updated the blog, I've now got the upholstery finished. The body work is well on too. :pCheck it out!:p

Your first link works for me but not the latter one.

I see those round holes in the bonnet are the result of cutting out rust. And you're hoping that, being round, the distortion will be less when you weld in patches. (I'll be interested to see if this experiment shows that the round patches produce less distortion than rectangular ones.)

Very nice work on the seats, floor pans etc

thanks lm. yea I think the circular holes will minimise distortion but I'll not be welding until next weekend, so fingers crossed. ;)

I'm thinking of powdercoating the split rims and front bumper cream and black respectfully. I was also thinking of painting my galvanised chassis satin black.

anyone got and tips for painting galvanised steel?

Hay man,
Can't wait to see the finished product. Where you located? I'm in Tipp.

Circle, square, rectangle, triangle, rhombus etc. etc. will all distort due to too much heat. If you take your time and use an air gun or at the very least a wet rag after tacs, heat distortion will not be an issue. Cutting out in that way may be a good idea, but it's really not gonna protect you from the metal shrinking or stretching due to incorrectly mig welding in patch panels.

I am looking forward to seeing this project come together.

I'll be following this one as we're neighbours going through the same nightmare with a 40 at the moment

Horrid bodywork

I've updated my blog with some rough and ready bodywork if anyone's intereste?

Thanks for the update..

Update time!

Another update to my blog folks if you fancy a look?

The first three show the body panels after blasting and the galvanized chassis after some black paint.

The final photo shows some plating work where a local company put the original passivated zinc coating on some of the small hardware bits. I even got the handbrake, injector pipes and light surrounds done.

The truck will be going to paint next week and I'm think Dune Beige (416) for the body instead of the original red. Like this one...
