I've go the AutoMeter gauges installed in the 40, and am ready to plumb the oil pressure gauge line to the motor. I want to retain the stock gauge/sending unit and plumb in the AutoMeter gauge with a tee. I believe the female fitting on the block is 1/8", but is it 1/8" NPT, or is it 1/8" British Standard Pipe thread, or other? If BSP, is it tapered or parallel type? Did a search on this and didn't find much. Before I order the necessary fittings from McMaster-Carr, I thought I would ask those who have done this. Thanks in advance.

Autozone or whatever has a thread assortment baggie of goodies used to hook up oil pressure guages. Go get that, t-in your new guage and your done.. Sorry don' t have the part # just remember where I got mine years ago..

Thanks - I've got the bag of stuff that came with the gauge, so I'm covered there. Just was not sure if the NPT stuff in the bag would seal correctly to the threads on the block if they are not NPT. NPT and BSP threads are close, but not an exact match. If the NPT brass fittings fit and do not leak, I'll go that route. If not, the adaptors are available. Larger thread sizes like the 1/2" for the heater valve on the head seem like they fit no problem, I just have had no experience with the smaller sizes.

Get the adapter, McMaster Carr 4860K141 1/8" BSPT Male x 1/8" NPT Female

You might get a 1/8" NPT to start, which may or may not be a lucky thing if you only grab a thread or so.

cruiser_nerd,

That was the one on my list! Thanks!

stock adapter

The tee that you want is a 1/8 x 28 BSP to 1/8" NPT. If you want one off the shelf, order the BP-44 adapter kit from Amsoil. The last one that I bought was $6 retail, and it is designed to accomplish what you are trying to do.

Thanks all! Ordered the stuff from McMaster this afternoon, should be here tomorrow. Don't want to chance buggering up the threads on the block - I never have had good luck making things like this fit properly. Redrock, didn't know Amsoil sold stuff like this, thanks for the tip.

THanks for those parts #'s. I had tried a 1/8 npt and it's not tapered enough on my bj70. the threads are right I just couldn't get it started. Thanks to the mudders out there!!
