This is cross posted in the FJ45 section...

Is the Horn relay with the screw terminals for the late 60's FJ40/45's still available new? If not, what relay do you guys use as a substitute for the OEM horn relay of that period?

I'm trying to determine how to terminate a 1966 FJ45LV cowl harness I am building new. With ring/spade terminals for the old style relay, or a 3 pin female connector like the newer style? I guess I could bring it out to the 3 pin terminal then offer an adapter to match whatever relay is available...

Thoughts welcomed...

I'm sure it's not available new, at least I couldn't find it and I would have. This is what SOR sells as a replacement. As you can see, I have been able to get my old one to continue working (or maybe I found a good used one on Ebay, don't recall) so I haven't used it, but it looks like it would work well.

Excellent! Ring terminals it will be. I knew I could count on IDave! Should have posted here in the first place...

BTW... That E on the relay case looks like a B! ;) I was beginning to wonder if you had ordered it from Victoria's Secret until I saw the box! :D

I should have pics of this all new harness soon. It's built from all new GXL correctly colored/striped wire with all new connectors and to all OEM dimensions. A brand new, plug and drive FJ45LV cowl harness.... ;)

Actually, I think those might be claw terminals (or whatever you call them) instead of ring....I'll go check.

Yep, in the event that it matters...

Yes there are many of those 'claw' terminals on the Cruiser, but I have been unable to locate an exact replacement. If anyone knows of a source I would appreciate a link!

I figure a ring terminal is better anyway? If the mounting screw loosens up, the terminal stays attached instead of falling off and shorting out. Bit harder to get the wires attached, but how often do you take this kind of terminal loose anyway? ;)

If I make a harness for someone I will ask which they prefer, I can use spade lock terminals instead of rings.

Well, as you know, I used spade lock terminals for my wiper harness. I guess my worry would be that if I have to unscrew those little screws to put on a ring terminal, it would end up in the gravel or on the floor under a pile of junk, where I wouldn't find it for 2 years. But that's just me :D

hey IDave

newbe here. in the process of put'n together wiper switch and need to replace wire'n up to wiper motor. have old wires from female plug to wiper motor.(in very rough shape) any suggestions on a rewire job? dont have anything below that plug. installed a painless harness but only have wiper power wire from fuse pannel. after market switch? i tracked which wire does what on windshield harness but scared i might burn up wiper motor which i cannot afford.

What year/month is your FJ40? (Suggest you put the year/month in your sig line so we don't have to ask. ;) )

I would get an OEM wiper switch (PM Trollhole, he may have one for you.) The older trucks have super simple wiper hookup.
