Anyone painted their FJ/BJ 40 with military olive drab paint?

Mine is going to require a bit of cancer surgery in the next few months and I've got access to a whole bunch of free Aus mil camouflage paint (rattlecans) and I was thinking an olive drab paintjob would add to the utilitarian mystique of the Gecko.

If OD sucks, there's a brown/tan type colour available (see pic below) but I'm frightened it may come out pink. :princess:

Here are the colours available to me:

If anyone could post pics of their olive drab 40s it would be most appreciated.

Cheers.

Make sure you prep the body good or it might look like this. :p I just bought mine about 2 weeks ago and this is what it looks like. That is getting ready to change though, hopefully this winter.

Great rigs! (even the one with the "wipe off" OD paintjob :D). I'm seriously considering going OD or at the very least some type of "Flat Dark Earth" - the gun nuts will know what I'm talking about there.

I like that last pic with the OEM top - now just got to find a supplier in OZ...

Screw it, I've also got access to the hexagonal digital camo canvas used on Aus army vehicles from the Perentie and 110 to the Bushmaster and the Unimog. Maybe a custom built OEM top in digicam?

Here's an old NORFORCE soft top troopy with the same canvas, but it's a little faded...

No? Maybe it's a bit much for a humble daily driver. I think I'll go OD or khaki canvas lined with black 1000D cordura for water and wear resistance.

Well guys, I just tried my free OD rattlecans on the trailer and the paint was about three years out of date and half the cans didn't work at all. Time for Plan B.

I went directly to the supplier and bought a dozen green ones - total cost A$136.10 (A$11.34 per can), which is very cheap for spray cans here in Aus. If any of my
Aus brethren are interested, the supplier is Protec - Paint, Value, Support and here is the spec sheet for the paint -

It's not nasty like US mil CARC paint but it's heat resistant, chemical resistant, chip resistant, bend resistant and is IRR (for camo against night vision lol).

All you guys with your OD 40s inspired me, so imagine this:

in olive drab like this:

(BTW: great looking vehicle corbinwelter)

Body panels will be OD. Wheels will be OD. Bullbar and hood hardware will be black. jerrycan carriers will remain black. Rear bumper and spare tire carrier will
remain black. Roll bar will remain black. interior will be black bedliner.

I've got the OD canvas, so I'll also be starting on an OEM-ish soft top for the 40 using the original STC bows slightly modified (rear bow made adjustable length).
Then I'll be happy and might even leave the vehicle alone for a while (after I make some OD canvas seat covers).

Cheers.
