Anyone know where I can get a new drive gear pin for my distributor? The weights aren't moving freely and it needs to be broken down to be thoroughly cleaned/inspected. I assume I should be able to drill one of the flattened ends of the pin out and then drive the pin out the opposite direction. But for reassembly I don't know where to find a new pin. Anyone have one or know of the correct size replacement? Part number 46 is what I'm talking about if there was any confusion.

you can get metric dowel pins at McMaster-Carr, but IIRC the size needed for the distributor is available only in hardened form, so you will need to anneal it for peening the ends over. I need to replace the pin in my 78 distributor, and also had no luck elsewhere, but thats what I planned on doing.

You might try these guys. Not sure what the pin size is, but they have a 2mm drill rod MRD120-7362 2 mm x 3 ft Metric Oil Hardened Drill Rod that might do the trick.

2MM Drill Rod: Fastener Mart

Or they have Roll Pins that are 2mm x 5mm which you could drive right in.

Brett,

Do you know exactly what size pin is required? Once I know the size I can start looking at my options.

I will measure later. keep in mind that there may be manufacturing variances from distributor to distributor, or variances caused by wear. your best bet is to remove and measure what you need.

Its 6mm or 8mm IIRC.
