welcome 77 FJ40

Are Jeeps made in the USA or Mexico? (For some reason I thought they were now made in Mexico?)

Anyway. :flipoff2: And please submit your forty photos at your earliest convenience for general perusal (and for inspection by our bezel police).

the assembled jeeps in toledo Ohio until 2002 or something then the line took a stab at saving cash and cheapoed the product with more plastic!!!

I read adout your trademe situation

Oh yeah. I'm still working on that.

(A fellow mudder helped me out with the part I was after so at least I've got that sorted.)

so whats with the jeep haters they wouldn't like me if they saw my wrangler and my 40 in the same garage parked next to eachother I wasn't aware of this I new about chevy/ Ford since I have a Chevy but now it's like I have both oops?

jeep haters

Don't be too worried about the jeep thing.
I have 2 fj40 I am redoing.
I also have have a 91 wrangler with power steering and air conditioning I use to go to town for parts , paint. sand for sandblasting and driving home after a dirty day at the shop.
So until I get my 40's restored I use the jeep for the dirty jobs.
Mainly cause I don't want to drive home after sandblasting all day with 2 lbs of sand still on me in my Lexus LX470.
So jeeps do have a purpose when we don't want to dirty our baby's up.
It is a soft top jeep, so using it on a pretty day with the top down is easier than taking a hard top off a FJ40. HE HE:cheers:

Speaking only for myself - I don't hate jeeps, I just like 40s better. Sort of like I prefer older Pajeros over new Prados, but the older Prados - the ones that came out of the LC 70 series - I like better than the Pajeros. BUT, given a choice, I'll take any of the real Cruisers (40, 60, 70, 80 series) over a Prado or the Paj any day. Nissan Patrols fall just below the cruisers in my order of preference. I also like the MB G-wagen, but don't like the ML series at all. Although the diesel engine available in the overseas models of the MLs is nice - an updated version of the 5-cylinder in my MB 300 D Turbo :D

My :princess:on the other hand, prefers the old Benz, but her fave truck is the 40. She likes her current DD too - the SWB version of the Pajero.

And so on, ad infinitum (Latin for "till it gives ya the screamin' meemies )

Welcome newbie, Post some pics and buy a star.
Jeeps don't totally suck. Hell, even Rosie O'Donell has a pair of tits, she's got some use.

I don't think that most of us actually "hate" jeeps. We just have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to buy a jeep, when they could have a Land Cruiser !

It's more that we're defending our only-true-love to the large group of pimple faced, or worse, yuppy new jeep owners that are "trail rated". The ones that think an 80 series is an SUV that's on par with a Chevy Trail Blazer. Or the ones that come up to me at gas stations, and say, "NICE JEEP" ! ...WTF! Don't they know the difference ?

It's also similar to the kind of ribbing that you might give a college buddy, the next morning, after he went home with the "homely big girl", from the bar. ;p NICE JOB drunk-ass !! ;p

My first vehicle was a jeep.......my dad had a 22r 4x mini at the time......."I saw the light", and figured out the "jeep thing". I don't mind replacing parts that break on the trail, so much....But, parts that just wear out, or just don't work right,....That just blows.

When I first bought my FJ40, even I didn't completely understand the difference myself. My best friend was a jeep guy, that had worked for jeep for a decade, and that's all he owned. I pulled my 40, in his driveway, next to his CJ7.............I'll never forget his reaction the first time he looked under my 40.......[he's very animated].........

"G$d Damned !!! THAT THING'S A BEAST!!".........He said the same thing the first time that I yanked him out of a mud hole. ;)

Stock CJ7's are "cute". "Look at the wittle axles ! awwww.......and the wittle bitty drive shaft".......it just melts your heart, like a puppy. Jeeps really are built,....not bought.

They do serve their purpose though, and at least they still come with solid axles. :meh: Dare I say ? I would still rather have a Rubicon over an FJ Cruiser. :o ......[flame away]........ But I couldn't actually bring myself to buy a "heep". :meh:

And hell, his CJ7 was a lot more fun to drive than my FJ40................................................on the road. ;)

I love jeeps, they taste like chicken!:flipoff2:

Well, first, the most important thing: Welcome to Mud:flipoff2::flipoff2:

And now to the Jeep question. I am sure that the truth is that most of us just dump so much time and effort into restoring &/or Moding our LC's that even if we wanted a Jeep, we couldn't afford one.:D
Sooooooo, we pretend we don't liked Jeeps.

Besides, Jeeps don't have Bezels for the Bezel police to look after.:bounce:

Nope. Negative.

The journey, for me, is as great as the destination.

To this day, I haven't spent ,in my rust free FJ40 , anywhere near what it would take to buy a Rubicon.... Arguably the greatest, most capable Jeep ever produced.

I'll go head to head with a stock Rubi' any day of the week. My FJ40 will only be removed from my cold, dead hands. :grinpimp:

I dont hate jeeps, but as with all trucks nowadays thinner sheetmetal and shorter life engines seem to be the norm. Everything has the potential to be a serious crawler or trail maker though.

Back in the 70's up in Utah, when I was a kid, I remember my dad laughing as we pulled over to help pull a jeep out of the mud with our (mine now) fj40. So the concept of fj40 owners dissing jeeps is far from new.

my wrangler dosen't wheel it runs me to work or the store besides truthfuly the 40 is a wheelin mo fo but I really truely believe my full size 72' chevy with all the good sh*t pushing 36i tsl sx swampers could rip my 40 in 2 pieces given the chance I love my 40 for scooting up little hillsides or tromping little tight yota trails but stock I would need my factory pto winch to keep up in the mud.. but nothing turns heads and starts conversations like me 40 she is my baby! Im tring to get you a pic or to for ya to look at give me a bit.

Im trying to get an Oregon fj40 run together so if anyones from Oregon search trail rides and see what Im trying to plan

Yeah, let's see some pics.

Chebbys and FJ40's are apples to oranges. [oranges are sweeter, wink]

You might be surprised what a FJ40 can do in the mud, compared to the big domestics. [ask me how I know]

Maybe you got one of the rare light duty 40's. J/K
