Ok, I have been cuffed and stuffed by the bezel police, but I think I may have been falsely accused. I have seen on here that the thick part is supposed to be on top, however, in my Chiltons manuel the pics show it with the thick part on the bottom and I also saw an original ad in one of the posts here with it on the bottom. Did the dealership mess it up in the pics possibly?

Dealerships are never wrong. ;)

If one came out of the factory and had a head light changed the bezel was removed and then put back on. A new employees first day on the job. Whole lot of reasons way one may be on upside down. The early ones were stamped with LAND CRUISER. After that to center Toyota from top to bottom the thick has to be on top.

Jokes aside,
If the narrower side is up and with the body shifting and moving , the hood can move back a little , and you won't be able to release it. This has happened to me after I had put bezel on the wrong way. Try it for yourself the part of the latch that catches the hood will have more rearward travell if the narrower side is down.

Don't trust the marketing department at Toyota, yep there are 40 on the toyota web site with upside down bezel. See this link
