I have a friend out here in WY that came across a barn find a few years back and is now thinking about selling it---but needs help with pricing. The vehicle is a 1966 FJ40 (VIN fj40-41964) very little if any rust on any part of the truck. Everything appears to be stock---with the only exceptions being the rear bumper, aftermarket Dualmatic front hubs made in CO and a modern oil filter adapter for the engine. The truck has 3 on the tree and stock engine (F221517). All class is original with the only blemish being a rock chip in the front window. The speedometer shows just under 40,000----which very well could be the actual mileage as the truck sat for about twenty years before being bought by my friend. PICTURES WILL FOLLOW IN A FEW DAYS---CAMERA TOOK A CRAP.

So any idea of a fair asking price for this truck?
Thanks for any help.

I'll see Poser's $500 and raise $100, but it's gotta include shipping to Oregon... :D

Actually, I picked up a '75 40 awhile back that has 48K on the clock, with some minor rot in the rear sill. Interior is durn near immaculate, came with a very used 8274 on a homebrew bumper up front: paid $6500. It stung a little, but was probably a fair price.

I guess it depends on whether or not it'll be restored or wheeled. There was apparently a local restoration outfit that was offering the PO of the above-mentioned rig $6000, but couldn't go much over that to justify a full frame-off resto.

On the other hand, I've got an Oct. '67 ('68 body on '67 running gear) with VERY little rust, but at least 100K on the clock. Paid $2000 for it back in '98. But I'm considering that a steal.

I guess the short answer is what the market will bear, but hopefully this helps some. Pics would definitely help!

It's costly and difficult to upgrade this old of a truck to daily driver status. Sure, it's great that there's no rust, but the "barn find" factor doesn't really apply to the value of this vehicle, and neither does the low mileage. As far as retail priceing goes, this is one of the least desirable trucks available. While low rust and low mileage is desirable, F engine, total brake/axle changeout, steering upgrades, etc/ are all against the retail value. If it runs, drives, and can be made to stop, I'd maybe pay 2500. Deduct from there for everything that doesn't work. The brakes won't work, so it's not a daily driver. Personally, I would much rather have a later vehicle for more money.

I just bought and sold one almost identical to your friends. '66 fj40 been in storage 22 years in Az. w/ 28000 original miles.I bought it for $2500 and sold it a week later for $5500 . We both got a good deal!
Somewhere in that range would be my opinion:beer:

The bezel's right side up - that adds $50 to it's value right there.

:bounce:

It was sold once by a place called Rambler Village. Hmmm. I wonder where that is?

That rig could be parted out for a min of $2000, fenders, hood, rear saloon doors, solid tub with NO emissions frame. Figure out what you're going to want to do with it;). Not a bad starter in my opinion, but then again I'm into EARLY:beer:

oh yeah, p.m. me about the hubcaps:)

I thought all 66's had the fresh air vent's in the windshield frame and the older style top's?
It does look pretty good though, i'd be looking to get about 3500 if I were you.
