Is the head gasket (bottom gasket in attached photo) correct for my engine? The top gasket in photo was the original that I am replacing, it has additional cutouts that are not in the new fel-pro gasket. Will this work? This is my first attempt to attach a photo with a post...not sure if I did it correctly.

Thanks for any help!

They have changed their thinking on the water flow passage ways... I even bought a new gasket from Toyota compare and was identical to FelPro one... but that is the one I use......

Thanks grant5127 for your reply! I was considering ordering the Toyota as well but really didn't want to pay $145 for a head gasket. You have used the Fel-pro 21219 B without any problems on a 2f?
Thanks,
Pat

Yep.. I needed one today and went through the spill again just to make sure I didn't steer you wrong.... they claim this gasket fits all from 1/75-8/87

Thanks very much, it's nice to know somebody else has used it without a problem. I'll go install the fel-pro gasket now.

F & 1/2 Gasket Set? (2/74 Mfg Date)

I've got a 9/74 "F & 1/2" (Head Casting Number 60051). I am trying to decide which of the Fel-Pro Gasket Sets I should use.

Here's the Fel-Pro Mumbers & Advertised applicable years. These are for the Complete Head Set - Supposed to have Valve Cover, Intake / Exhaust Manifold, Head, Exhaust Doughnut, and other items...

HS21218B-1 69 - 74

HS21219B-1 75 - 84

Am I making this too hard? I don't want to order something and get the wrong stuff.

Thanks - Rocky

If you have a true '9/74.. you need the gasket that covers '9/73-'12/74.. I have never been able to get it through FelPro... the problem could have been my source tho....

Fel-Pro HS21218B-1 Gasket Pictures & Question

Here's pix of the Fel-Pro Gasket Set for '69 - '74 "F" Engines

Question:

If I have my intake / exhaust manifolds "shaved" to flatten them up, should I still use two intake/exhaust manifold gaskets? Or is this a header thing? I am using the stock manifolds.

Recommendations?

Thanks -

Rocky

When I bought my 3/'73 cruiser it had signs of water in the oil. A shop removed the head and discovered the wrong head gasket had been installed by the po. It looked like the one in post # 8 & 9. The explanation was that the oblong hole oil passage way between # 4 & 5 cylinder connected a water jacket passage to the head bolt hole allowing coolant to seep up the bolt and in to the crankcase . I don't know how this claim of that gasket fits a '69to '74 holds true.

I don't know either, but on the lower side of all the gaskets, the headbolts are isolated from all the water passages. On the upper side, the copper lined oval cutout seems to me to be the only one that connects between a head bolt hole and anywhere else, and that hole seems to be in all of the gaskets.

The HS21218B-1 (Post #8) matched the gasket I pulled off of my '74.

I can't claim knowledge of all configurations - I'm just going by what the Parts Stores have in their system.

Comments?

Rocky

PS. I was disappointed to find the "kit" didn't come with the side cover gasket.

I know this is an old thread but I bought a head gasket from CCOT and it looked pretty nice with raised colors around each inlet. My problem is I installed it upside down. I have not run the engine yet but can I just flip over the head gasket and re-torque or do I need to buy a new head gasket and start over?

Also I sprayed the head gasket with copper sealant and let it get tacky before I installed it. I assume I am going to have to clean the head surfaces again before I reinstall. What can I use to clean the surfaces? Mineral spirits?

Thanks for any help you can give.
