Hi Everyone,

New to the forum. I just got my 2008 LC yesterday. Silver with upgrade package, convenience package, side molding and everything else under the sun.

Just curious, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you guys pay over invoice? I got mine at invoice after some negotiation, including accessories such as remote start, etc. I think I got a damn good deal.

Any one else from Tucson? How 'bout AZ?

I plan to leave this vehicle pretty much stock. I've been bitten by the aftermarket "bug" in the past, and it never ends...ever!

How are the other owners here liking it so far? Any complaints? Anything to know/worry/watch out for?

I can't wait to take it up to the mountains! This beast doesn't belong on asphalt!

EDIT: Also, does anyone have photo instructions on removing the headunit? I ordered the VAIS Sirius and iPod kits and will be installing them myself. Any help beforehand would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats on your new purchase!

I have not ventured to take out the head unit, never had the need yet.

The only complaint I have is over the COOLER BOX....after a few months it doesn't work correctly. Not a big deal, but it always seems to work when I take it to Toyota, so they never see it malfunctioning!

Enjoy it and post some pics!

Yeah, I'm not too sure about that cooler box yet. I sure could have used a large compartment to store stuff. I guess my Kleenex box, pad of paper/pen, and gun will stay cool now! What the hell is that white plastic thing in the bottom for? Such an odd design it must have a greater purpose with those dimple shapes.

Also, on page 325 of my manual (and the 3rd programming option on page 521), the interior lights are supposed to turn on when you approach the vehicle, not only when you unlock it. It is supposed to sense the proximately of the remote.

However, it states that the [ON/DOOR/OFF] interior light must be in the ON position. This doesn't make sense because if you leave the lights in the ON position, then they will stay on when you lock the vehicle and drain the battery. I keep my switch in the DOOR position.

Does your LC interior lights turn on when you approach the vehicle? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks! I will post pics at some point once I take them!

That dimple thing, I believe, is kinda of an ice pack....once it gets cold, it should stay cold for a while.

Don't know about the door thing....never noticed. I will check it out and report back!

That's a strange icepack! Almost as strange as the cooler...ha!

Also, I don't have a coin holder...didn't realize that. Where do you keep your parking meter coins now???

I figured out the light thing...well, toyota CS did. They do go on as you approach the vehicle, but there is a few second delay, pretty much mitigating the purpose of the function.

They say to RTFM (Read the F***ing Manual), but the manual doesn't cover this feature very well...just that it exists for you to figure out there is a long delay. Guess I'm just impatient.

Thanks!

We don't have parking meters where I live :)

Does the cooler (when working) get drinks cool or cold. Just wonder if it is more of a gimmick than anything - although I think the overseas LCs have had them for several years now. Based on your description, I guess you have to be careful what you actually store in the cool box (no IPODs or phones I wouldn't think). I sure would hate to lose the storage space, but have not seen a 200 on the lot in my area without this package. Problem is I would like to have factory DVD for the kids, but again only comes with this package. How would you rate the sound system, NAV and rear DVD performance?

JB, if you get a chance, check out Copper State Cruisers in the cluhouse section. Bunch of great folks (if I do say so myself);)

Welcome

Cooler box is just that...it cools drinks, never cold. If you want cold, you will need an engel fridge.

Never smoke in cars...the ashtray is the perfect place for parking meter coins.

Yup....where I am after the truck is sitting in 110 - 115 degree heat for over 3-4 hours...not little 'cooler box' is going to work.

I am considering a fridge....

X2 on the ashtray!!

Well, the lights do work when you approach the vehicle, but you have to wait a few seconds....it's delayed.

The cooler is not a refrigerator. I wish they put it as a middle row "captains chair" option and not up front. It's a lot of wasted space for such a wide vehicle. I would rather have a large compartmentalized storage space. They at least could have made the top compartment area larger.

Coins in the ashtray could work, but I will have to add some rummer lining so they don't bounce around and sound like a <insert domestic manufacture here>....haha!

So far I love it!

Oh, what is Crawl Control doing when you test it out on asphalt? It sure makes a sh!t load of noise....

Thanks guys!

I cannot deal with the crawl control....hearing those sounds just bug me.

I can't figure out crawl control either. It makes soooo many noises that it sounds like my underbody is scrapping rocks. If anything, I want to hear if there is an underbody scrape or problem, which I cannot hear when crawl control is activated.

On it's lowest setting, it jerks forward and then slams the brakes. I can't stand it. Once you go level 3, it's better, but at that point, I might as well just drive myself!

Anyone really use this feautre and could maybe give some insight? I may never use it again if I don't figure out why it has to make so many noises and create such an uncomfortable ride inside. Very disconserting....

Also, when the front tires lift up, the rear drops so low that I was scrapping my mud flap a lot of the time while climbing. Very glad I didn't knick the paint when traversing up an over rocks.

How extreme have you guys taken yours? Can you post pics? I took mine into quite a rock garden, and the powertrain was flawless, but dealing with the breakover angles was a bitch. Prop those front tires up and the rear becomes a low rider.

Nice pics.

Don't get me wrong...I understand the crawl control, I just don't like it.

If you are worried about the paint...stay on the pavement

Seriously...the LC is a wide beast...you are going to get alot of Rocky Mountain Pin Striping.

Yeah, I get it too. I understand its purpose. I just don't understand why it has to be so noisy. It seems that this is a high R&D item, and there are other things that could have been worked on. For example, I like the location of the A/V jacks in the RX330. They are in the rear cargo area on the side, right next to the 110VA outlet. In the LC, they are on the center console, with no power in sight. If I decided to bring a game console along, I would rather have it in the rear. Minor issue, but it's still something to think about.

The cooler box was actually quite nice to have when out there for 6 hours. It kept bottles of water quite chilled. However, I still think for 90% of my driving I would rather a storage compartment. Make the cooler an option.

I'm not really complaining here...don't take me wrong. I hope that other future prospective buyers read this info and take what they will. I, for one, love my new LC. These are very minor issues and there is a lot to love with this vehicle!

I've used the crawl control a couple of times, and it is handy, but I don't feel it is necessary. I do agree with you...there could have been other things that Toyota could have worked on or included. My vote would be for front and rear lockers. I would have much rather had lockers for both than crawl control. Crawl control seems to me to be gimiky, where I have used lockers in my 80 to actually get me out of situations...saved my ass once in 4 ft of snow in the mountains.

It is kind of an oversight on Toyota's part:doh:.

Yeah, lockers would quite handy. I think I would rather have electronic lockers than crawl control. Probably less expensive too!

You hear so much about Jeep's "Quada-Trac II" 4WD systems...how does the electronics in the LC's compare?

Also new LC owner

Also got my LC 200 yesterday. Still can't believe I have it and that the wife was okay with it  Paid less than invoice on a Salsa Red Pearl that was on the lot for over 6 months.

I'm still waiting for some aggressive wheeling pix too... :D

When somebody figures out how to quiet down the ABS pulsing in any car, then Toyota will make sure the next LC gets the quiet version. Crawl control was designed for use in extreme terrain, not what you pictured above. Crawl control is self explanatory, controls the crawling. You wont appreciate it going through pebbles, cuz thats not what it was meant for.

This is where crawl control was meant to be used on:

As for quadra trac II, its mechanically and electronically controlled system. You get to hear the pulsing of abs in them to. Quadra Trac II shifts power to the front or rear, whatever needs traction. Then the brakes grab the spining wheel to transfer power to the wheel thats not spining. Much similar to the A-Trac system. The LandCruiser has Torsion center differential, as does the V8 4Runner, LX470/570, GX 470.
