Anyone checked their stock Tundra wheels they have put on for this issue? I took the forged TRD wheels off my Tundra (these are the 17" Forged TRD off road wheels with the Faux beadlocks)and put them on my LC.

All the sudden I had a horrible wobble above 30MPH. I had the tires balanced and it was still there, I took the truck home and pulled the wheels to try and rotate them to re-create the issue.

Well here is what I found...

The nuts that hold the axle/hub cover are hitting the inside of the wheel when I tighten the lug nuts before the wheel snugs against the hub....

Anyone know where I can get a 1/4" spacer in our lug pattern. I really don't have any interest in putting huge spacers on my truck.

Below you can see the silver marks on the nuts and bolts where the wheel is resting on them.

The lowest pic, you can see where I initially put the wheels on and then a matching set of marks where Discount Tire put them back on....

Talk to Slee, he has those wheels on his LX

Yeti,

I have talked to Slee regarding these rims. You will need to put on a spacer of apx 1&1/4 to 1&1/2 to make these work. The only other option is to have the inside of the rims machined out to allow the hub clearance. A 1/4 spacer will not work. Almost everyone i have heard from have had good results with spacers as it adds some track width which aids in stability. I have been and are currently looking for a set of these "Rock Warrior Edition" wheels and tires for my LX. They are far and away the best looking option for our hundys. Call Carl at just diffs 509-888-2953 x 113 as he sells the proper spacers (hub ecentric) for our vehicles. I spent a half hour talking to carl as he is going to upgrade my 2 pinion diff to his properly set up 4 pinion. This man knows our 100 series vehicles thouroughly and is great to talk to.

Dan,
I spoke with Carl today. The spacers he sells are not hub centric. They lok exactly like the ones on Slee's site. I measured this morning and a 6mm spacer (1/4") will give me clearance for the wheel and plenty of threads on the lug nuts to feel comfortable with them.

I found a fabrication company on the site that is going to have some cut out with a waterjet from 1/4" steel. These should supply a much greater fatigue life and surface to seat to than the Aluminum ones and will not significantly widen the front track of my truck. Plus my 35's will have a little more clearance form the frame :)

I'll let you know how they work out in a week or so...
Good luck getting the wheels. I found mine on Ebay for my Tundra a while back.

Rich,

I was under the inpression that "Hub centric" was what our hundys reqd. i guess not. I hope the 1/4 in spacer works as i would use this option as it is probable cheaper than $150 per pair of the larger spacers. What is the guy quoting for the 1/4's ?

Are you running the std tire that comes on the RW wheels? (285/70/17)

Thanks for the info

You are probably going to run out of wheels stud if you use a sandwich type spacer. Also the section of the hub that is where the wheel seats to make it hub centric is probably only 1/2" in depth, so the sandwich spacers is going to change your hub to to a non-hub center hub, or at least leave a very small lip for the wheel to center on. At that point you might as well bolt on a a set of decent spacers. Also not sure if sheetmetal is accurate enough in terms of the dimensions to keep the wheel true.

Dan,
I'm Running 315/70/17 (Approx 35"). I'm not sure on the price yet, but it will definitely be cheaper than the $175 quoted from Dan and the $198 from Slee. He's guessing $75 at the most. If it's cheaper I'll pay less. I'll let you know. He's getting a quote from the water jet guy today.

Christo,

The TRD lugs that are supplied with the wheels center the wheels on the studs which will center the wheel on the hub. There is still a 1/4 inch or so of hub left as well.

As far as not having enough wheel stud, I'll go from 30mm of wheel stud to 24mm of stud length. This translates to a difference of 12 full rotations of the lug to 8.

The negatives far outweigh the negatives of a 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" spacer which I see as additional bearing wear and more dirt/md rocks spraying up the side of the truck.

The inconsistencies in sheet metal might be a few thousandths of an inch. I haven't seen any tires out there that come true and balanced so I doubt that will be an issue either. If so, I'll have a buddy of mine machine them.

All that being said, I'd sell these wheels and put some Walker Evans on before I put large wheel spacers on. They like many other wheels are going to be lug centric as well.

I'll post up some pice once I get them and put them on...

Why the desire for the Tundra rims? Just asking. Is it for personal looks?

I already own them... I sold my Tundra last week and pulled the wheels. The stock 16's are pretty haggard and these are somewhat free :)

When I bough the truck it had a mismatched set of BFG MT's on it and I would prefer AT's.

3 KM1's with 20K miles, 1 KM 1 with 0 miles and 1 KM2 with 0 miles...

I've been considering them because I need new tires and people are often selling them with the BFGs from Toyota for like $1000. (And they look awesome.)

What tire is that? Very interesting looking!

Loud is correct, Not my rig (Sniff sniff)

They are indeed Goodyear wrangler Duratrac's. I believe they are 285/70/17 (32.8 inch in dia) as the only other 17 inch tire they offer in the Duratrac's is a 315/70/17 and i don't think they are that big (34.4 inch in dia), could be. I believe this rig is running 1inch + spacers all around and i really like the way it looks. I have until this spring to lacate a set of these rims and tires as the studded snows (265/75/16)have been put on the fact 16 in rims.

I own the truck in the the picture that TLC Dan posted. He is correct about the tires; they are Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs LT285/70R17.

The tires, wheels and spacers were all on the truck when I got it. According to the previous owner the spacers are 1.5 in front and 1 inch in the rear. I have not noticed any problems and there is very little vibration at any speed.

Is this an issue only on the 17" TRD or all Tundra/Sequoia wheels? I've got the 18's right now. Maybe I'll pull them off tonight to check. Haven't noticed any wobbling and they been on for 1000 miles, at least.

Ya, it's just on the 17's. I have the 18" tundy wheels as well and no problemo.

Great job.

I will go this route when i find my Rock Warrior wheels. Now we need pics of the wheels on the rig!!!!!!!!!

Please please please..............
