Did a bit of searching but did not find the answer...Just picked up a '06 and am thinking about going with the Nitto Terra Grapplers in 275/70/18 (33"). These are LT tires so would require more air than the "P" metric. What do I need to do to either make the TPMS system work correctly or disable the system?

Thanks!!!

I had no luck disabling the TPMS system on my '06

I don't have the TPMS but my best guess is you inflate your tires to whatever pressure you desire, then press the TPMS set button (maybe hold it down, I don't know).

Not sure how to disable either but some people (other cars) just mount all the sensors into the spare tire! Are there individual wheel sensors or is the TPMS ABS/rotational speed based?

Lot of info on the Tundra forum but the system seems to be different for the LC at least the wiring is not the same for disabling it. The sensor are interchangable FWIW.

Going with a fix from the Tundra forum I disassembled 1/2 of the dash and unplugged the TPMS ECU only to see the light remain on.

There are 5 sensors and each one is addressable to a TPMS ECU with a receiver antenna in each mirror. If the system is still working and you dont want to use it the best solution I found was to seal the sensors in a PVC tube with a valve stem and add air.

If one sensor goes bad you need to visit the dealership to have the TPMS reprogramed.$$ Even the dealerships computer cannot disable the system FWIWT.

You can run standard pressure in those tires - in fact you probably should unless your are towing a heavy load. E rated tires can handle up to 80 PSI but that does not mean you MUST run high pressure.

BTW: E rated tires are HEAVY (10 ply) and you will notice the power loss and about 1-2 MPG less - at least I did.

You are right...I ran Toto's previously and you could tell the difference with the "E" rated tires. I have not found another good solution though on tires. The Toyo's definitely felt more "firm" in the sidewall than the Nitto's.
