Like some others here, I had a rear wiper that would not shut off. For a few months I simply unplugged it at the motor, but it's almost winter here in the Sierras, so now I need it. I developed a "good-enough" fix for it today.

I ordered a wireless 12v relay from Ebay for under $20 (including shipping).
Like this one LED lighting, soundproof, Sailor's Solutions Inc. (but much cheaper).

I noticed that there were two positive leads into the motor, but only one or them actually seemed to control the motor function.

I hooked up the relay power input to the one that didn't seem to do anything and then installed the relay on the input power to the motor.

Now I have a remote key chain tied to my t-case shifter that controls the rear wiper.

Press on to turn on the rear wiper, off to turn it off.

It's not a perfect solution, but it is cheap and it works.

Thanks,

Arthur

Bump for a cheap fix. Surprised I missed it when first posted.

People actually use that rear wiper? I'd have to look around to figure out how on my cars. Best rear wiper mod I've made was putting a plug in the hole when I pulled mine out.

A possible reason for wiper not shutting off is a broken ground in the hatch hinge. Power finds another route to ground, through the rear wiper motor, so the motor keeps turning.

I find the rear wiper is VERY useful during the Tahoe winter.

But, of course, we get a real winter here with over 400" of snow :flipoff2:
