My 100 has the worst luck evar with windshields, I lost another one on the way to work today. This is the third time I will be replacing it. According to the "outside temp" display it was 3°. The defroster was running on high. "POP!" There goes another piece of glass.
I suspect the installer never seated either windshield correctly which lead to the first break (by the mirror mount) and most likely to the most recent break. He also never got the trim pieces secure. Time to try a new company.

I'm not sure I can hang around you anymore, windshields, front diffs, trac-bars, rear diffs...:flipoff2: Crap, I just jinxed myself.

That sucks. My mother-in-law had a Chevy Astro van and you could not keep windshields in that thing. I think she went through five in the couple of years she owned it. Traded it in needing a new one.

Hopefully the next company you try does a better job.

Hijack - where should I get my windshield done in the Colorado Springs/Castle Rock area ?

I want to go somewhere that has done a 100 before?

and at a good price.

Look at it this way I'm a bad Juju magnet, as long as I'm around you're safe.

We are going with the shop recommended by Reno Toyota :meh: not that it means anything. They are convenient for us though, just down on Longly.

X2...I have been putting it off for 6 months!

that sucks! Have you been using OEM glass or aftermarket?

EDIT: I see its aftermarket by one of the pix, I wonder if their quality is as good as the OEM glass?

How annoying. My screen is also cracked but I’m not gonna bother changing it till it gets more cracks. From what I understand most installers do damage when they replace them. Mostly from scratches when they cut out the old piece, and don’t touch up afterwards. Rust around the windshield is not the easiest to get rid of.

Actually the biggest complaint seems to be that installers don't get the rivets on the trim installed correctly.

.... which results in a failed seal and water ruins the front fuse panel on the driver's side causing weird electrical problems.

Mine got the same crack Sunday! I fired it up to melt the ice off the windows and came out to find the crack from side to side. But on mine it was started from a ding right in front of the driver. My wife has a tendancy to attract road debris. Who knows how long the ding was there.

According to the installer at Z-One mine had a rock ding that caused the crack as well.

The truck has been parked since we got home from the shop. I need to get it out on the high way and see if the 65MPH rattle is gone.

I had Elite Autoglass / Safelite do mine recently.

The guy seemed to know what he was doing. The previous installer had replaced the factory rivets with screws and he re-used them.

I do get a tiny bit of creaking from the windshield sometimes, it's pretty subtle but pretty annoying (not noticeable if the radio is at a moderate volume level). I'm going to take it back after the holidays and see what they can do with it.

Oh, one other thing... I'd probably stop by the Toyota dealer and pick up the outer trim piece and have them replace that as well. It's not technically a part of the windshield, but it has to be removed to replace the windshield and doesn't seem to like to re-seat cleanly.

Safelite did mine the first two times, I'll leave it at that.

The thing that I don't like about the mobile windshield repair is that the guy can't ask for help or advice easily... so you're really at the mercy of one person's skill and experience.

How do you replace that? When the bodyshop resprayed my whole truck the drivers side trim didnt get put back on correctly, figure I should replace it also.

from my experience with Land Rovers, the aftermarket glass is NOT the same quality as OEM. Discoverys have a bad habit of spitting out aftermarket front glass. My FJ62 needs a windshield, and I'm prepared to buy OEM and have a real glass professional install it, not the mobile guys, I have learned it is cheaper in the long run.

call the local Toyota dealer and ask where they send their L/C's for windshield repairs. I did that and used OEM glass (Statefarm covered the $1100 OEM instead of $300 cheap glass - surprised the heck out of me)...

Thanks, I'll have to try that. I have State Farm too.

Good idea.;)

If I have another failure I'll consider OEM glass.

I have Liberty Mutual, According to my wife they will replace up to three windshields on each vehicle every year. I never expect to get more than three years of use out of a windshield they get pitted from sand storms and road sanding up here.

For me, 3 OEM windshields in 3 yrs, all when my mother-in-law was visiting and all during the month of October! I had Scottsdale lexus do all three jobs. First one broke from a rock that hit about an half inch from the passenger side upper right side, cracked across from the impact point to center of passenger side. $1K out the door (glass was $600 and change plus mouldings and labor). Second was from a rock that hit in the bottom center near the edge of the windshield. Cracked up & over. Glass went up to $900 and change, $1200 and change out the door. Third (this year) was from a large rock smack in the driver's center...$900+ for the glass, $1538 out the door. Allstate covered all three 100% (I have 100% glass coverage), no need for an adjuster to inspect or anything...just had to file the claim by phone, get approval for the estimate, and fax them the invoice/receipts.
