Sand Chef 2007

OK, Cruiserheads, it's time for this year's Sand Chef or, like they say South of the border, " The Sanchez" Competition.

The rules have changed a little bit from last year:

The competition will take place Friday evening at Surf & Turf. Participants have 90 minutes to come up with 2 savory dishes, plus one dessert based on a secret ingredient. The secret ingredient will be revealed 24 hours before the contest. This will give teams enough time for to get their ingredients and recipes ready for the evening's showdown.

There will be a panel of 5 judges. Including the event's organizer: PismoJim.
Each entry will be judged in 3 categories on a scale of 1 to 10. The categories are: Presentation, taste & originality. The wining team will be the one who is able to score the most points.

Each team will have its own name and maximun of 3 members. There will be a maximum of 7 teams. Each team must provide all their ingredients, including the secret ingredient, plus all their cooking equipment. Each team will bring their own setup (Cooking table, stove, grill, cookware, lights, ETC). Plus 7" dessert plates to serve the judges.

There will be a $20 signup fee per team. All teams must sign up by Oct. 20th and fees are due on on the morning of the event. The wining team gets to keep 100% of the signup fees. In the event of a draw, the prize will be divided evenly between the wining teams.

If you are interested in competing, please PM me with your team's name and members.

Thanks for taking the lead Alvaro!
And Desertdude, the PA play by play and background music put it over the top!

I updated the info on the Surf n Turf web page.

This is great fun and VERY popular with participants and spectators.

So who's thinking about competing?

I'm hungry...

Who had the keg of homebrew at that last year? I'm hanging with them. Big fun--this should be a huge success.

We are going to enter again this year, and bring more homebrew. It was a really fun event last year.

Guys,

We have 4 teams signed up already:

3 Little Pigs
Third Member
Seattle Sauce
Yopo 4x4

There's only space for 3 more teams. So if you are interested, sign up now.

Regards

Alvaro

I don't have a team.

It is only me or I would sign up to do my special abalone chowda. (as my co-worker from Boston would say).

Sounds like fun though.

Jeb,

You can join a team or make your own.
As far as the Chowda.... Only if one of the ingredients in the chowda is the secret ingredient it would make sense to make it for the competition.
Now, that does not mean you can't do it and we can enjoy it some other time...

Alvaro

I can bring a mallet and block to go with my Abalone Beer recipe.....well, not really much of a recipe, I just usually bribe the guy with the ab's into submission with all the beers I have and then bread em up and drown them in lemon juice after theyr'e fried up!

of course, it's always easier when you're the guy with the grill and the guy with the ab's is your co pilot home from the Boonville Beer fest where this hapens, but hey....

I'm in, but I can't get out of town until 3 on Friday when Nick gets out of school.

Of course we'd have to go up to our place at The Sea Ranch for some diving the weekend (day?) before; guaranteed limits of 8" abs in my secret spot. Nat, you in?

We'll have to decide on the 2nd dish though. Abalone wonton, or bacon-wrapped shish-ka-bob with pineapple.
