Hi everyone. I ordered 3rd members with 5.29s and ARB lockers from an online differential vendor. I've got my truck up on jack stands and my brother and I cannot get the new front third in. The width of the new gearset appears larger, we are getting contact on the outer flanges surrounding where the axle shafts slide into the differential and the axle housing itself, if you look closely you can see marring on the ring where the locker air line goes in, as well as on the bottom of the outer flange where the axle slides in. We've wriggled every which way and it just won't go in. I've included some pictures showing where the problem is. Any thoughts? My truck is up on stands right now and we slid the old 3rd back in no problem. Vendor is closed on the weekends. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have the correct third. 2. Measure and compare the specs to your old 8 Inch H/P to see how they compare. 3. Make sure they are assembled correctly. I will send some pics after I finish dinner. Good Luck..!:)

Thank you sir, I didn't have calipers big enough to measure directly, but looking at them side by side they appear to be the same. My old one is back in the axle already, but some comparison photos would be awesome if you get the chance. I'm erring on them not being assemble properly but wouldn't mind hearing from other people with 5.29s + lockers and what their experience in fitting the third back into the axle housing was. Frankly we don't think there's any way it'll fit.

Here are pics of a RD132 H/P 8'' for 1995 to 1997 Land cruisers. I f you have a different year I would have to get out my papers to proceed. Good Luck ! :)

Hope this helps The pic you posted does not match an 80 series 8'' H/P ARB locker from what I can see.

The adjuster (arrow) appears to be protruding too much. The bolt holding the lock tab is incorrect, not JIS, likely OK, but I prefer the original type hardware.

I pulled the manuals out that were included with the purchase. It says it's an RD132. I could send it to ARB and see what they say. Can anyone confirm that the RD153 is for c-clipped semi-float axles? I have a 97 ff and as far as i knew it doesn't use c-clips.

Wait so the locker itself doesn't look like an RD132, or the third in general looks off? Sorry just want to confirm. Thanks again.

The pic I sent was of a a RD132 I built 8 months ago for my 95 , H/P 8'' third member. A 97 will be a RD142 in the rear. It will look like this. See how the body of the locker goes straight under the ring gear, different from the smaller RD132 that has a gentle sweep under the ring. :) Even wirh that material smaller on the locker body you still need to grind about an 1/8 Inch off the pinion gear top outside tooth edge's to keep It from hitting the locker body. These lockers are nitro 5.29 gears ARB lockers Toyota new diff housing and all toyota bearings and parts with exception of the Marlin Crawler solid pinion spacer Instead of a crush sleeve. There are Chinese fakes of these lockers out there so buyer be ware. There are many differences In the product you have from Toyota or ARB. I don't want to go in depth about that but I will tell you that the Machining on the diff housing looks to be chinese. Compare the bearing caps, One of several . Also you are correct on the adjuster wheel Its not In near enough. Good Luck..!

Roger that, thanks again. Looks like I have a bigger problem, I was sent a a rear built with an RD153. I know I specified full float and my invoice states 97 so not sure what happened there. Hopefully they'll make it right. Thanks for the input everyone, have a great rest of your weekend.

Here Is my stock diff adjuster and I'm not saying It needs to be In all the way but you get the Idea.

Good Luck I hope all goes well for you. :)

Are we assuming they went to non-OEM cap/retainer bols as a precaution? Like default procedure is to replace them, and they didn't have OEM?

Or is that a sign that the third member case itself is a knock-off?

Question, how common are knock-off cases and are they quality or something to be avoided, any markings to look for? Check out this picture. I compared what was sent to me more closely tonight to whileemptyheadsdream's third and it looks different. There's a bulge under the the last horizontal fin on the bottom on the one sent to me, it's absent on my factory third and on empty's. The machining around the mounting lip of the third also appears rough. Thoughts?
