GSMTR Photo and Tall Tale Thread
OK folks, here are some shots and stories from GSMTR this year. I can tell you I had a fantastic time! It was smaller this year than others, but that worked really well for me since I racked up in the raffle!
Here are some photos and commentary in chronological order...I didn't get there until Wed. night, so others may have more stuff before this. Dan and Steve did Slickrock on Tuesday...so hoping to see photo proof of that!
Thursday AM we hit the trails and ended up at Lower 2 to watch some 40's pick there way up. Lot's of winching going on that day on Lower 2. We did spend quite a bit of time wheelin', but since I was driving I don't have many shots.
Thursday night, it seemed, was the party. CC offered us a harmless looking potion that turned out to kick our asses...lemons, sugar, and vodka. I don't think I will ever be the same! So as you can imagine...the night lasted well into the morning. Here's Steve and CC...I think this is a good indication how most of that evening went. Oh, and as you can see...Steve's offending "bag of doritos" is present in the photo.
I'll continue with more in the next post...

After Lower 2, I headed out with the Trail Team, Alex, and others to wheel for the afternoon. I don't have any pictures from the trip because I was so busy driving, I forgot to take any. Dan and Steve decided that sleep and food were a better option for them and headed back to the cabin. We hit 4, 5, 6, and 8 up to the top of slickrock and watched for a while. Then we headed back down the way we came up. Running out of time before the dinner and raffle, we got stuck behind a broken 40 at Fain's Ford, but ended up out and on our way.
The dinner on Friday was great...pulled pork and catfish. STLCA did a great job again with the food and the prizes. A number of us UC folks got some stuff...and the GA Cruisers did pretty well too. I took home a BFG hat, t-shirt, IH8MUD travel cup, Powertank tire patch kit, an Iron Pig bracket for a power steering pump for a Saginaw Conversion, and a FULL 20lb Powertank set up!!!! Sweet!
So after the raffle, we hung out at the fire pit since it was getting REALLY COLD. A few adult beverages and Dan tried to sell me to KOWBOY of the White Trash of the Ellwood Chapter. The price was only $1500 and I wasn't so pleased with that so I smacked Dan in the head with 3 beer cans at different times during the negotiations. Luckily, Dan know's what's best for him and I returned home to the cabin with my honor intact. Hehehehe!
What a fun bunch of folks out there! I had a blast meeting some ner folks and connecting up with a bunch of old friends.

[quote=eventhough;2181244]I have no recollection of that pic of me and CC... I do remember having a few s though...
Steve,
Does this mean you have no memory of the deeply philosophical issues we discussed?? What about the part where I said you are one of the most intuitive, responsible, intelligent, handsome and funny people I've ever met? Not to mention smart enough to figure out how to get rides in UC Cruisers!!!
Oh, maybe it was the Doritos...........
I hope you plan to attend the UC BBQ at our house on July 14th because we are stocking up on different varieties of Doritos for you.

Hmmm....its all becoming clear now!!!
I told my wife about the Doritos and she said "YOU DON'T EAT DORITOS!!!"
I think Ali and I will be at the BBQ - I'll have to bring something veggie for her!
What does 'philosophical' mean???

It's all becoming clear now!!!
I would like to help you recall, Steve, but crossing Amnesia Creek has left only these vague and fuzzy meanderings, and I can't quite seem to bring them to conscious awareness. Something about a cap? Murders?
Hunger? A long beer stein on a necklace? Makes no sense now!

I've got some pics, but for now, I've gotta post the 'Cado's flex shot. I rode with Dan on 4 Wednesday, and we got a nice shot of him stuffin' the 37's on his 80. Looks possible to me.
I'll try to post the rest later... Dan, I have the high-res versions if you want them.

Sorry.

Well, I didn't take too many pics as we had our resident photo hounds in attendance again. Will post a link to Todd's webpage when he gets some stuff uploaded, in the interim - here's a few pics of the Florida contingency with our "token" die hard UC member Alan H.
Note: To those who missed the climb up Capt. Jim's hill Sat. afternoon it was a hilarious high RPM event due to some heavy rain and lots of slick mud and leaves. Killer trail.
Everyone in our little group had an awesome time - and as posted the weather was perfect.
Only breaks on the first day were Al's Velveeta wag with a driveshaft injury, me with another pinion break on Slick Rock due to some overly excited tested of the new traction bar (well - the axle does not wrap but bouncing and high RPM burn outs with 39" red labels don't mix.) - fixed up and ready to go the next day, and Alan with a broke long side rear shaft at the top which we fixed promptly thanks to a fellow FLCA member donating an spare shaft. Have pics of Alan's half roll on this trail as well .
Tuesday we hit lower 2 and nobody had to winch. Mike was making impressive progress on the big obstacle at the top but gave up due to his front shaft slipping out. His rig is sick with a new for this year rear 4 link and 39" red labels. Note - Lower 2 was an absolute cakewalk.
Wednesday - School bus with some light rain. We killed it, with exception to a small winch job for Alan and Jason destroying a chromo birf. See pic. Unfortunately Al's Velveeta wag busted a motor mount and he went back down only to break a birf (which we found him changing a few hours later as we made that long arse ride back). We went over to Helicopter and Mike and I made short work of it - with Mike commenting "we've overbuilt and this stuff is no challenge anymore?" See pics of the roughing it Cajun dinner we had that night .
Thursday - Killer day. Small group went up to upper 2 - but only Jim, Mike and I ran it due to potential body damage to the prettier rigs . I went first and had no problems - except that as I crested the big rock my folded down windshield caught the rock in the wall and got busted. No damage other than a quickly banged out dent in the hood (2nd time) and the busted glass - the frame is still mint?
Thursday con't. We then hit Gaurdrail and Helicopter. All three of us walked Guardrail, and Mike and I both did Helicopter in less than a minute each, if not less - but well Jim kinda got on a funny angle and he went for the winch to keep from rolling - wimp!
Jim and I left early Thursday evening as I had more busted hub pins and figured I'd had a good run. Heard on our way out that Mike busted his rear drive shaft trying the big rock on Lower 2 again. Someone else will have to post the drinking stories and more pics - but I do have a killer little video of the booming roman candle I made one night - 30' high flame ball - hmmmmm, rum and Korona has funny influences. That and with Capt. Jim - saying no or going leaving the campfire early is generally frowned upon.
Thanks to all the UC folk who stopped in to chat with us renegades - look forward to seeing more of ya'all in a few months.

Other notes of interest:
We really missed having Dave and Lynn around this year - but oh well. Dave kinda made up for it by having our Annual Sushi dinner in Pickens on Sat. night - since it was late, the owner locked us in and forced saki on us. It was a terrible experience - hope to have to do it again next year.
As you may have noticed - Alan is going to bigger tires after watching the 39" Krawlers on Mike's and my 40's. They're just a sik tire!
Captain Jim finally had revenge on Upper 2. With my old hand me down 38.5" TSL/SX's on the double beadlocks he managed to take that same silly high line and not roll this time. It was really impressive - and he actually looked confident for once. He then bragged about how cheap he got the tires and rims from me for....
Newbie Martin made Slickrock his first time - albeit he struggled a tad in the rock garden portion and had to take a strap over the last obstacle up the chute. Not bad for a first timer on 34"s.

That wasn't saki my friend....it was japanese moonshine.
Made from sweet potatos. It's 100 proof +.
It was nice of Andy to open the CLOSED place just for us
and lock us in.
I'll bet Mike will beg his local bar to make some Po Boy Rolls
now. Mmmmmmm.....japanese oysters...rolled in bread crumbs,
quick fried then rolled into a sushi roll. Hot outside with a cold
oyster inside. Add some yummy special sauces and it's awesome.
Andy loves how Capt'n Jim will eat ANYTHING. He always sends
that neat stuff out to Jim. Heck he even made Mike a volcano
on request. Tossed us some freebies and gave you a special
Japanese beer.
Great guy.

Here's some of Todd and Todd's pics posted to the LandCrusher site: http://www.landcrusher.com/home.html
Enjoy.

I finally got my pics uploaded so others could see. You can find them here:
GSMTR Pics
Sorry, I don't have any rowdy pics, but the wheelin' pics are good.
The pics of the scenery are from my "hard trail day" with the FJ Trail Team. We went with Rob and the photo crew. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous, and it was a good day off from wheelin'. Rob mentioned trying to put together a ride like this for everyone at next year's GSMTR. If you can spare the time, I'd go.
Enjoy!

Tapage,
You would have loved it, except for the absence of bikini-clad women....
Check out the links above for some pics. Sputnik40 may have a video or two hidden away.
