at the Southern Cruiser Crawl. :grinpimp:

I'm packed and ready to leave for Cali tomorrow. Super excited about my trip that I won at the Crawl last year. Wheeling the Rubicon Trail should be a trip of a lifetime.

A special thanks to Georg for donating the trip and to you guys for putting on a great event.

Jeff

Color me green. Have a great time and tell us all about it when you get back. That's one I gotta make before it's too late!

Jebber,

Don't have too much fun spooning with G and Toploader. Take a piece of brisket (frozen, unsliced) and eat it on the con. Toploader will be hugging all over you..

Three words... Un Freaking Believable

More to follow...

After some flight problems I finally made it to Cali.

Day 1:
That morning we loaded up and met up with Georg's friend Nick and his lil brother Sizzler in Stockton. We then headed out for Loon Lake to meet up with the three other trucks in our group.

We just entered the Rubicon Trail. :)

The first cool area we got to is known as the Bowl, a huge granite bowl area that covers several hundred acres. G was driving and leading the way.

Nick dropping down into the Bowl. Nick's 4Runner was Georg's until about 3 months ago.

Looking back into The Bowl.

We had been on the trail for about 15-20 minutes when we caught up to a guided group ahead of us. We met them at a wide area and quickly pasted them to avoid getting caught behind them. The trail is mostly narrow and very few places to pass.

The trail goes around the Northwest side of Loon Lake as we passed Ellis Creek and then up Walker Hill. We had some great views of Loon Lake from the trail.

The Jeep corporate guys had been out the week before testing their JK with the new 6 cylinder. They had a bunch of magazine editors and folks out there. G says they have a team of people stacking rocks for the stock jeeps that week. So the first part of the trail had been tamed a bit by corporate guys and the forestry service. The trail increasingly got better (worse conditions) as we went along.

We stopped for a break not too long after we started. We got ready to start back up and G said, “you're driving”. And I thought to myself...hell yes. The first cool obstacle we got to was the Soup Bowl.

On approach

G spotted me into an aggressive line but could not get enough traction. I did get a wheel way up in the air. A funny note: As my tire was about 4 feet in the air G said go passenger. I unconfidently asked "Are you sure?" G just laughed. All I know is I did not want to flop his rig on the first obstacle. That would have been a FAIL.

Taking the standard line... popped right up.

There are alot of shots like this. Me and My "Pudding Face." I have not smiled that much in a four day time frame in my life.

A little bit of wood on the outside.... love those 70's graphics.

A little further up the trail, G said we're gonna have you go through Little Sluice. A difficult section of trail that gets bypassed by most rigs. As many of you know, Georg's new rig is the ShizNit. As I looked up the narrows of Little Sluice I realized I had never done anything like this before. More Pudding Face!

Getting positioned for something. My spotter was great.

Approaching the aforementioned something. The pivot rock.:D

As I got into position, my spotter tells me that I'm going to pivot around this big arss rock by driving up a wall in front of me. I thought "you're crazy, this is Bossman kind of stuff. My little Blue Mule does not roll like this." But I was not in the Blue Mule, I was in G's Point and Shoot. It was way cool.

We then rolled through some milder stuff. The guy from Toyota Owners mag followed on foot for a while taking shots of us... maybe we'll make the cut. Then we met up with the next group at the top of the Slabs. They were wrenching on three trucks. As we drove through the trucks I see a familiar face, Bill Stayner. We chatted for a bit and watched Mudrack weld on a truck. Then G says, I think we'll take Old Sluice instead of the Slabs. Great Decision. There are three different areas with the Sluice name. Little, Old and Big. We ran them all.
