So I'm driving up to Avon with my old man as we're doing some guided fishing this weekend, and sure enough coming down Vail pass my exhaust decided to say smell ya later. That's the bad news. The good news is that with my new throaty exhaust, I can compete with every dropped civic in town :D

Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what the problem is as of yet, but I'm prepared to get a whole new exhaust if necessary. Until I get a diagnosis, I'm not going to know what I need, and I have some good ideas as to what to get as replacement from doing a search.

What I'm really looking for is a good shop that does good work in the Summit County / Vail area that can do the work in the next two days. I think I can get the truck back to Boulder without a problem, but I'd rather get it fixed this weekend if I can get it done right. I know there are a few members of the forum up here and I'm wondering if anybody has any recommendations of good shops ? Thanks very much in advance.

If it were me, I'd MUCH rather wait if possible and have it done in my hometown.

Otherwise who knows: "Oh, that bolt we need didn't come in, should be just a few more days", etc., not to mention the hassle if there's a problem with the work down the road.

It's cheesy I know, but an Autozone type place has temporary fixes (Metal tapes, hangers, patches, ...) for almost any exhaust problem imaginable.

Crawl under there and see what's up!!

Good luck,

Curtis

After sleeping on it, I think that's probably the route I'm going, waiting that is. I'm about to crawl up under there and see what's going on. I'm pretty sure it's not gonna be real great, but I knew this day was coming anyway! I'll report back and let you guys know I come up with.

I'm a CO native, and can't think of anyone good in the mountains, not that they don't exist.

I would just shoot down 285 into the from range and get it done right at A&A Performance Brake & Muffler at 285 and Broadway. From that intersection, I could be back in Boulder in 40 minutes.

i totally agree. I just moved from Colorado after living there for several years. Dont get too excited about having work done somewhere where you haven't had work done before and in such a hurry. some shops like people that just need it to get them back on there road.
just spend your time up in the mtns. and deal with it when you get back. if its not to big of a deal that is.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! After further investigation this morning in the daylight, it appears as if the O2 sensor behind my cats just completely popped out. I haven't researched it yet, but it was just hanging by the wire when I crawled underneath it this morning. I'm going to need a new bung, if that's what you call it, as the one stud is completely gone. The other one is a bit rusty, but I'm hoping to find a nut someplace that'll at least keep the O2 sensor where it belongs until I can get back to the front range and get it taken care of by a pro.

I guess that's better than needing a whole new exhaust, and in the mean time it sounds like I've got a totally righteous honda civic with a spoiler and oversized stainless exhaust :)

That's too funny!! LMAO...Glad it's an easier fix...exhaust problems can get a little pricey not to mention the PITA it is to find someone you trust to work on it. I would almost look for a shop that builds and restores cars that does their own exhuast work...I think they would tend to give it/you a little more one on one attention than the get 'em in and out type muffler shops...Just my 2 cents...

Is your CEL on??

I'd certainly think it'd be throwin' a code with one of the 02 sensors just danglin' along.

Oh; someone just mentioned the other day that you can get those bungs/flanges from Slee.
