I finally got around to installing my rear ARB bumper that I got at the PMC swap meet last month.

No – it is not an incredibly stout bumper but for my personal needs I think it will work pretty well. I would like to eventually build my own with swing-outs.
I got some great info from here on MUD from some really old posts from others installing this on their trucks. The bumper is an older discontinued model and it fits like a glove.
The hardest part of this installation was getting the stock bumper mounts off the frame. They were attached with these really big industrial rivet type connectors. I had to drill them out and knock the heads off with a chisel and then pop them out of the frame. The bumper needed a little coaxing with the pry bar but it went right in.
When doing my research here on MUD one post said the stock Jack Handle & Rod assembly was not long enough to get under the frame and lower the spare. I found this to be incorrect and mine worked fine. Perhaps this person did not have all the rod extensions in his kit.

I pretty much like how it looks.

I also attached the items that had to be removed for the bumper to be installed.

Nice Rear

So there is more than 1 old ARB rear bumper left in the US. I put a 62 rear ARB on my 60 so the fit is not just like a glove more like .750" away from it. I did add some extra .250 steel on the top and sides to beef it up a bit.

Nice Truck BTW.

Very cool bumper guys. I'm digging these 60/62's more everyday!

Does anyone know if there are any more of these bumpers around?

That is exactly what I am looking for. It would not only look good but cover up the only body blemish on my cruiser. Please PM me with any direction possible. Thanks

So I found one of these today:

SO, how do I get this onto my 1983 FJ60?

Did you weld plate onto the ARB, or did you add plate/bar to the frame where the bumper bolts on? Did you remove the "items" that Cabrito did?

Benji said his brackets were "F'd up" so he made his own.

Armchair mechanic question is; What do I need to do & buy to get this on my 60!

I'm guessing I'll have to drill/grind/BFH the stock bumper mounts off the frame, shim the frame rails to the brackets, and find appropriate Grade 8 hardware.
(interesting article on that here :ROCKCRAWLER.com - Grade 5 vs. Grade 8 Fasteners)

Anyone have a list of bolts/sizes I'll need? I've emailed ARB, but some real world experience would be great.

There are at least 16 bolt holes!

I had to remove the items like Cabrito. I welded on extra plates to beef up the bumper on the top and sides b/c mine was rusty and very thin in some spots. When I said .750" away I meant that the bumper will not go up close to the body and you have a gap between the body and bumper. This is b/c the 60 rear crossmember sticks our further than the 62. You could move the crossmember but that was too much work for me. If I had a new ARB 62 bumper I would sell it and get another bumper that has a better fit.
