Hey guys these are the day trips we discussed with the planned trails. Now these are not set in stone, I want everyone to have a chance to post up on which trails they want to go on and on what days for those doing the short trip. If there is a trail that is not on this list please make a note and we can add it. These are in no particular order.

1. Poison Spyder Mesa, Golden Spike, Gold Bar Rim, Gemini Bridges

2. Hells Revenge, Top of the World

3. Pritchett Canyon

4. Behind the Rocks

Other trails to fill in:

Fins and Things
Elephant Hill

Most of these days are going to be good long days 8-14 hours so be sure to pack lunch, snacks, extra fuel, and warmer cloths for nightime. Each Person should also have about a gallon of water each day.

Looks like I'm going to be there to wheel M-T-W. (I need to fly home on Thursday.)

I definitely want to do:

  1. Hells Revenge/Top of the World
  2. Poison Spyder Mesa/Golden Spike/Gold Bar Rim/Gemini Bridges

As Rob has stated, those will be long days - leaving early & getting in late.

Fins & Things & Elephant Hill look like good trails to me too.

I'm fine on missing out on the more extreme trails like Pritchett Canyon & Behind the Rocks. Maybe those could be Th/Fri runs? Seems logical.

Tim

Any other recomendations? If not lets talk about what days we are doing what trails so the guys flying in can get their desired trails in.

Fins & Things is always a good warm up trail. Great for first day "How does my rig stick to this stuff?" experimentation. Lot's of optional obsticles and plenty of views make for a prudent first day run. Mild to Moderate

The {PS~GS~GBR} is certainly more challenging and depending on # of trucks and sight-seeing ie: repairs, can leave time for Gemini Bridges (Sweet!) or will usher you back to camp after nightfall. Bring your KC's and a flashlight! Believe me, trail markings can get very hard to find after dark. Moderate

Hell's Revenge is a mixed bag of "What did I get myself into" lines with some by passes. Hell's gate should only be run with experienced spotters. The Hot Tubs are nearby just past Escalator for those who want to test the end-over pucker factor of their rigs. Moderate to Hardcore

Pritchett and Behind the Rocks evolve every year. Be prepared for anything! Hardcore

Eliphant Hill is 1.5hrs of highway from Moab but worth every mile for views (confluence of Colorado and Green Rivers). Mild to Moderate.

Cliff Hanger is a lot of fun. A loop trail with start and finish 5 mi from town. Great for an early morning start with a wrap up on Moab Rim Trail. Moderate.

A few Guide Points:

~ These trails are usually close to town, BUT, be prepared for:

*Rain, Snow, Wind, Blazing Sun, Night time returns and maybe over-nights in the desert.

Slickrock earns it's name from the effects of moisture. For those who have not spent multiple over-nights learning this lesson, please allow me to explain... Sandstone will let you get to places you will not believe. A mild rainshower will keep you at that unbelievable spot until it is dry.

Like others have mentioned;
~Bring extra fuel if you can.
~Always carry enough water for you and your passengers for at least 2 Days! (1 Gal Ea)
~Carry at least 1 snake bite kit per vehicle (Diamondbacks wake up in March)
~Be prepared for a weather or breakdown caused over-night.
~Lunch and Backup provisions for you and your passengers.
~ Oh Yeah.. A fully charged cell phone and IPod.

For anyone who would like information about my Mild to Hardcore evaluations, please feel free to send me a PM. I will be happy to share my opinions.

Hey guys, lets start to make plans for what days, only 4 people have repsonded to this. Remember things are done by those who show up. If you do not voice an opinion you will have to follow the rest of us...

I know we may or may not be able to follow this, unexpected weather breakdowns ect will change things real quick.

Is everyone ok with leaving around 7:30-8:00 each morning? Should we leave earlier? Sun should be up around 6:30, daylight savings will be in effect!:hhmm:

We will determin a meeting place once we get there. Remember to be packed with gear and full of fuel. :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2::bounce:

Okay, if you ask me any trail that's green is plenty, but I'm a novice and I'm counting on you vets to get me through the tough stuff... like the Big Horn Lodge parking lot. ;)

I'll be following Lance's FZJ anyway because he's having me stuff the CanBack with bubblewrap just in case...

I can say this I dont mind leavin early but if we can I would like to do as much as we can and I dont mind long days on the trail. But we might want to pick one day that we can have more time to do say one trail and get back early and relax have a good time. 4-5 days of hard wheeling is tuff and hard on everyone.

I just re-read what I posted and it sounds contradictory but I guess lets get as much in as we can with out killing ourselves.

I like to wheel hard so my vote is definetly one day of stupid s***. :flipoff2::steer::flipoff2:

Cam,

I agree, if we leave early it gives us more time in case something does happen. I do not want to get back at dark everyday either. I also do not want to do a trail in the dark JUST to say we did it. I really do not want to do trails in the dark because as Ben said, looking for markers or the trail itself at night sucks, We did that one night and it sucked, basically we had people out on foot finding the trail so we could get out of there. I do not want to plan on being out after dark but it might happen. The trails we have picked can allow us time to get back if everthing goes smooth...

I would much rather sit around a camp fire, or that really good Mexican resturant drinking a couple of cold ones talking about the days adventures and how we are going to straighted that FZJ40 fender back out than be wrenching on the side of a cliff somewhere. Now pulling the bubble wrap off at the end of each day will be fun with a beer in one hand!

This is a vacation for all of us and I want to enjoy it! Remember we will have women folk with us that may not want to ride around in a bouncy truck all day... although Mary Marshall did say those little FJ Cruisers were cute and would not mind having one...

Hey, be nice, just because I'm a little overprotective of my Tacoma... :D

Hey, I'm learning. I know it's gonna hurt when Cam says,

"watch this,"

"where's the hammer,"

"you know we will take care of you out there,"

"this will only take a minute,"

"that'll buff out,"

"I will spot you,"

"definitely one day of stupid,"

"Feed the Pig!"

Tim, all I can say is "EXO-CAGE". that is what I had to do, even with that Cam still managed to lay me on my side LOL. They have a NAPA in town, I am sure they have wax and polish. We can always use some of that bubble wrap on yours!

I am bringing your tires, you might need someone else to carry the extra bubble wrap :)

Bloo there is so many more you could add. :flipoff2:

Hours of Operation

You guys tell me what you think, but I have found it nice to break things up a little as far as start times are concerned. If we are to tackle a long difficult trail or have more than 8 trucks on one run, then it makes sense to make an early start. (Any trail with a start location further than 20 miles falls in this category). We could make the next day a shorter run or smaller groups and take out a little later. Like Rob said "This is a vacation" so please post up and voice your opinions. Other wise, you are at the mercy of the :hillbilly: creators of this expedition! (Thanks to them !)

4 More Weeks !?! :bounce:

Buddy, I got news for you - if we bend a fender on the FZJ40 we've taken a wrong turn somewhere... like off the side of Lion's back!

Cam has promised me a crew of migrant workers carrying 4'x8' sheets of cutting board to put between the FZJ40 and any rocks that get too close.

Can't scratch the paint you know...

I know we are going to have a lot of trucks but I thought we were going to all go in one group. It may be slower but it would be nice to see what all the vehicles can do and really make this a club trip. Plus I want to be there for when Lance gets the first scratch on the FZJ40, they look on his face will be priceless!!

Sidebar: Lance it really looks great and will be an awesome showcase of your products and skills as a fabricator. I would hate to see anything serious happen to it.

Diesel was still at $1.96 per gallon this morning, I hope it stays there or lower. Ben what are diesel prices out there?
